Something Wrong With My Cory

I'm sorry to be asking questions again but the cory still isn't better.

I have nearly finished the bottle of myxazin and to start with he was geting better but now he has just started to sit around again, he is still very dark and the white patches have returned.

I think the other cory that looked like he had scraped his mouth must have had the same thing. His colour has improved around the mouth area but his barbels are pretty much gone and you can see his mouth open all the time, he has also lost most of the two fins underneath him ( sorry don't know what these fins are called). The spot on his tail seems to have cleared up though and he is still swimming about and eating.

I have started to use the protozin again and will have to go and buy more myxazin, before I buy this is there another type of medicine I can try? maybe one that is abit more powerful.

Or is it time I just give up like my local shop told me to. I don't want to as the cories are my favourite fish, but seeing him lying there all the time is very depressing, he just looks so sad.

Sadly uk meds are not strong and by the sounds of it the fish needs an antibiotic which is only available through a vet.
You could try switching meds to the anti internal bacteria med by interpet, and email them asking if you can double dose.
If they say yes you will have to really increase areation in the tank.

Thanks for your reply,

The white patch on the fish has spread this morning but only on one side of his body. He doesn't seem to be moving apart from when he swims to the top of the tank, after this he just lies on the bottom again.

I have relatives in america and they are sending me some JBL Furanol which is what they use for there fish and have said it is very good.

I know america has more meds than here so is there any others that would be helpful?

The shop near me that advised me not to bother adding any more meds had the interpet meds including the anti fungas one, this said it was for mouth fungas. Will this be any good?
They also had primafix which I was told was for fungas and bacterial infections, should I try this?

Thank you Wilder for your continued advice :)

I thought I might put the cory in a small tank I found it is about 25 litres, I think I will also move the one with the bad face aswell.

Everything I have read about columnaris says it is contagious so do you think I should carry on adding meds to the main tank just in case any of the other fish have caught it but are not showing symptoms yet?

Id no other fish are showing signs of columanris i would do some water changes for a few days, and turn temp down by two degrees, good luck.

Thanks very much,

I will set up the little tank and move the two cories, hopefully the new med will arrive quickly as he really isn't looking very good now.

Bless him, turn temp down in the hospital tank too, good luck.

I'm afraid the cory has died.

When I moved him yesterday I noticed he had a red mark on his side that looked like blood under the skin and he wasn't moving at all. I added the interpet bacteria med but when I got up this morning he was lying on his side and 10 minutes later he died.

The cory with the bad mouth is still in the little tank so should I still use the furanol on him when it arrives?

Thank you Wilder for your help in trying to save my cory, I didn't think a fish dying would be so sad and it was quite upsetting to see him lying on his side this morning. :(

R.I.P. Sounds like on top of everything else he died of septicemia which is hard to cure.
Yes treat the other one with furanol, for now you could add the anti bacteria med by interpet till the other med arrives, good luck.

Thanks,
I hope the furanol arrives quickly he doesn't look happy on his own. Even with his problems of mouth rot and his two fins on his belly missing he is still very active, so I'm hoping to have more like with him than the other one.

You could try a weak salt bath on him, as columnaris hates salt, say two teaspoons in one litre for 10 minutes if he can cope with that, if he starts rolling over alot remove him from the salt solution immediately.
Should do this at least 5 to 6 times aday, usually every four hours but it is a bit of a bind, did it myself.

Is this just normal salt?

I have interpet 8 which says it is for mouth fungus will this do any good? It says in the instructions it kills the bacteria causing the fungus and then the mouth area will regenerate, is it true that the mouth area and barbels will grow back?

I have been watching the fish left in my main tank to make sure they haven't caught anything but I'm not sure what I am looking for. One of the neons has gone very fat but his colour is normal and an albino cory has faint red line in his tail fin but is swimming normal and both are eating. Is this anything to worry about or am I paranoid?

You have a bacterial infection in your tank, i've used that fungus and finrot med on columnaris and it never did anything, you could boost it up with half of the anti internal bacteria med for now.
Red streaking in the tail can be due to poor water quality or septicemia.
