USA,
So I know it isnt like a hoot funny, but odd funny.

So after changing my tank over to cichlids my dad says to me
" You have a big tank and no fish in there. You need to get some."
So I said
"Okay take me to get some."

He says
"You shouldnt waste your money on fish. And Your not going to the store."

I think that is quite odd.

does anyone lese have stories like that?

edit: fixing some spelling mistakes

heh, the first part is true to my dad.. when I was cycling my tank he always said go get some fish already lol.

Well for me that's never been a problem. Being that my dad was the one who ended up getting me into aquariums. Also being that I drive and have a job, buying anything I want isn't a problem. But I can understand situations like this.

Most parents/people don't really realize what you get from a fish tank that is beneficial. One, you get a great pet (pretty much your own little world). And they relieve stress levels and help the ill to heal quicker. They are something the whole family can enjoy. I read a great article a couple months ago. How a funeral home had a 125 gallon fish tank in their lobby, and people wrote letters to the funeral home saying that it was comforting and relaxing, and great entertainment for kids and people to get their minds off things.

My mom was like that.

Me kinda bugging about a puppy:

"No."

"You could name it Mobius, it looks like Mobius off of Witchblade!"

 I asked her straight out, "So I'm allowed to get a dog now?"

"NO!"

:S

"No more tanks."

:shifty: Ten dollars and a sneak attack later.....

"Ooo, I like the gravel in this one. You know, you should get khuli loaches...."

"Hey, yeah, they would look cool!"

"Well, I don't want you getting anymore fish, just stick with the ones you have..."

May I ask people...... WTF?

My dad told me that a relative was selling a tank, and that if I wanted it, I could buy it. So I did. When I finally got him to take me to buy it, it was about a week away from a dinner party he was holding, and told me that I had to go out and buy fish to put in it, or dis-assemble it until the party was over... he didn't want an empty tank in the living room. So I got fish, but only 5 danios, and he was upset that I didn't get more... he wanted a completely full tank!

Yeah... I'll get right on that.

Well, I've had many a conversation, mainly with my dad. Eg, about why you have to do water changes. But this was the most stupid...

Dad-So have you decided what your putting in your tank yet? (Note; the tank is 3 gallons)
Me- Yes, a siamese fighting fish.
Dad- A Siamese fighting fish?
Me- Yes, A.
Dad- Only one?
Me- Yes, A Siamese fighting fish.
Dad- Why not two?
Me- They will kill each other. Thats why they're called Siamese FIGHTING fish.
Dad- Oh. So not even a male and a female?
Me- No, they'd kill each other if they didn't breed. Which I don't want.
Dad- What about 2 females?
Me- No, they'd fight. I could get 3 and they might not, but then the tank would be overstocked.
Dad- Oh.

Goodness..... Then yesterday I had to explain that the 7 gallon I wanted on Ebay was for my desk and the bigger tank I wanted wouldn't fit so it would go on a stand on the floor... But thanks to him, I didn't bid. I also have had to explain to my mum that a 15g isn't big enough for anything interesting (well it is, but nothing interesting I want or can get), then this morning I had to explain to her that even if I got that 50g that I reallly want (but I won't get, I know), I'd still want a bigger tank.

All I can really say to this is I am really glad I don't live at home anymore and I can buy whatever I want without having to listen to my mother question my every move. :D

lol. My dad let my brother get a 55 gallon tank, and he wouldnt let me get one. He said my 29 was big enough. Though he did end up getting me one for my birthday.

He likes fish, especially his two sharks, guido and the other one, no idea of its name. But I dont think he cares for any other fish. I do tell him all the time he can set up my 29 gallon for what ever he wants as long as they will be okay for eachother and the tank, and he always says no. But he buys fish for my tank and my brothers tank.

another thing with him. He wanted an oscar, and I wanted to get a 75 gallon tank and get an oscar for it for my birthday. But he didnt get it, and got me the 55 even though the 75 and 55 were the same price.

Ah the joy of owning my own home and sharing it with another fish nut.
No arguments about fish. Ever.

yep parents are weird they made me sell my two big tanks then at the fish shop the other week my mum spies a hex tank and buys it as it matched the furniture

After I got my 50 gallon, they said "No more tanks!!!". Now my dad wants me to get a huge tank, like 100+ gallons. LoL. I didn't even have to ask!!! Now I just need to save up (I have $500 so far) and convince my mom...

When I got my first Betta, my parents were curious.

When I got the second Betta, they were amused.

40 Bettas later..."You have too many fish!" From my mother... "now you're BREEDING them? Don't you have enough?"

Take her down, introduce her to every fish in the lot...now she's getting one of the Betta fry, and she's quite excited about it. She told me I should breed one specific Plakat, because "he's so pretty, and his color is amazing."

When I got my first tank my mother said "Aren't you too old for this rubbish?" then as I got more tanks shes like "I was hoping you'd grow out of this" now when she comes and visits "They're so clean and the fish are really nice, but you're too old for this Angela"

I am 31!!!

The only person I have to deal with is my GF, and she picked out half of the fish, I guess I just got lucky....

She wants all of those "pretty ones" and I tell her to go get a salt and you can have them....LOL
