Some parents are so funny when it comes to fish!

When I brought my 20 gal home, within one hour, both of my parents tried to claim my 5 gal. But when I brought home new fish and was cleaning my tanks, my dad says why are you keeping these fish in the old tank? why not just throw them in? He also wanted to know why i was checking the pH of the water (local tap water has been EXTREMELY basic lately), how come I have some food in the freezer, etc.


And the really scary thing is, my dad wants to get a marine aquarium, and he is complaining about the work in my tropicl one. I predict he will buy a tank and enough fish to stock it to 200%, then wonder why they are dying and he has so many problems

Here's a little convo that went on between me and dad.... we were staring at my fish.

Dad: Why don't we go down to Mooloolaba Pet store and get him a friend? It'll make him happy.

Me: Thanks Dad, but he'll kill anything I put in there. The tank's too small for other fish. And he is happy: see those bubbles? It means he's in good condition.

Dad: Get him a girlfriend then, sweetie. You love these fish, I don't mind them. Breeding them will be lots of fun and it'll give you something to do. I'll pay for the stuff you need...

Me: Aaw, thanks. But I don't think I have the time. And I don't think Jerry's a ladies man...

Dad: Maybe he's gay then...

Me: Dad, fish can't be gay.

Dad: Yes, they can. Hold a mirror up. If he checks himself out, he's gay.

Me: (Holds up a mirror)

Jeremiah: (Starts flaring)

Dad: See! He's dancing! He's trying to impress himself. He's gay.

LOL splish, that convo's familiar.... My parents have actually got the message that this isn't a phase My dads offering to biuld me a 'rack' which he claims can hold several 30g's, my mum said she'll buy me a tank for my birthday, and dad will lend me money if I need it. Yay.

Yeah, mum doesn't want me to invest too much time and money into fishkeeping since she thinks (hopes ) I'll tire of it.
