So Overnight I Became A Father?

alot of breeders use a sponge filter, rather than a normal filter, it's cheaper to run and they swear by them, for fry tanks :good:

Still at a bit of a loss here as I don't know which tank to get and what sponge filter others recommend...

Now that the fry are secure is it safe to resume the daily light cycle?

This sponge filter or one like this. People recommend that they are used in conjunction with and something like this.

Although, you can make these yourself (i prefer to buy, have a habit of bodging things up).

You will need an airpump with those, tetra are better pumps, quieter and is less of a toll on the elec bill.

Here is a good thread, oldman and tolak have some good info on them;

Any of those sponge filters made and sold in the UK?

I really don't fancy buying from hong kong

I'm gonna have a google search for the foam box but it you have plastic tubing, spare foam pads and those carbon stone thingys, you can make one yourself. I'll have a search though :good:

here you go, aquarium box filter

for the pump, the tetra aps 100 is what you will need, pumps 50-100ltrs per hr;

ebay link

you will need to purchase air tubing separate from everything

Or you can just buy some large filter pads and secure them around the intake of a normal power filter with a few tie wraps or something. Not too tight though cause you want to be able to remove them for cleaning every now n then.

Tanks in london....

You don't need a 15gal (which all the above are. but it's just to give you an idea of some of the stuff available). There are plenty around 10gal to look at :)

there's much more available in london than berkshire! just not fair :lol:

personally i would go with the foam filters for a fry tank, rather than a normal filter but that's personal choice,

What do you think of the via range?

i was giving him a 60ltr elite but he didn't want it, so i would say that's the next best thing lol

I had a Juwel 60l to begin with and to be honest I grew to dislike that aquarium and the way it looked. Also I'm trying to find a compact 10gal as that is sufficient according to curiosity plus it'll save space.

It's a real shame the Aqua40 isn't actually a 40l aquarium as that is a perfect space saving size. It's actually 27l which for raising fry to a big enough size to sell/re-home probably isn't going to be big enough when taking into account the average drop from your females.

I'll have another look on ebay for 10gal examples...

Can i get away with a 35L with a thin layer of substrate?

I have seen some nice 35's

ahh you do speak :rolleyes:

aqua 320 is a good tank, i would go with a tank that has a li, for fry. You don't want aerosol etc in the air, to effect the water.

I wish you wouldn't dismiss my advice
