Do these actually exist?

In your experience what is the most quiet air pump. It will be in my bedroom so i would like to be able to sleep.

why do you need a pump,stick with a filter, i hate the humming of pumps

Because i want to run a couple of sponge filters on some shrimp tanks.

@justjon just looked on ebay, they look quite reasonable on there.

I have got a sera precision, that´s really quiet (don´t know the tetratec though, so can´t compare). It´s the bubbles coming out the spongefilter outlet that´s making the noise!

I'd vote for tetratec airpump also

I agree with Bridie- bubbles can be more noisier than the pump itself

Airline is cheap, mount it a billion miles away in a shed!


The way you mount it is important, obviously they have rubber feet but if the airline is touching something it can vibrate through that, also I find that putting them inside cabinets (specially small sections) can sometimes make them resonate slightly louder.

Maybe use some sound proofing in the cabinet, or wrapping the air pump up in some (eggcrate)foam, yes this will make it warmer but they're so cheap I wouldn't worry.

Timer turning it off at night? or even just off during the times you often go to sleep turning it on at a rough guess when you have normally fallen asleep.

I like the running water (and bubbles) whilst sleeping, soothing.

I just bought a tetratec APS150 after lots of online advice saying how quiet they are.

To be honest I'm rather disappointed by it. It is much louder than I expected (although not really loud enough to consider sending it back as faulty). I could never sleep in a room if it was on. I'd love to get rid of air pumps but I need a filter with low water flow for a betta.

I have a Sonic 9908, very quiet, had a tetratec and found it noisey. The sonic I have is 10 times quieter than the tetratec

i have a rena 100 and also a rena 600 which are both very quite id recommend these anyday or night come to that
