Sick Of Doing 12 Hourly Water Changes!

It's likely that your water contains Chloramine, Chloramine has the molecular formula NH[sub]2[/sub]Cl, When the Chloramine bond is broken you're left with a Chloride ion and NH[sub]2[/sub], free Hydrogen ions will then bond to the NH[sub]2[/sub] species creating ammonia, this could be why you're getting ammonia readings after water changes, coupled with the fact that your tap water may contain ammonia in the first place.

On that note if you had 0.25 in thank for what ever reason all the time(forget the reason for this question) would the fish apadpt at all or would they just get sick over a longer peroid of weks/months?

I`ll leave it till the morning then,and check then,would you all stick to feeding fish every other day ,or daily as tank `still cycling?

I'd feed twice a week, it's generally best to feed lightly as the tank cycles.

Personally I would not change water until the ammonia hits 0.5 or more in your situation. Also check your nitrite and nitrate at the same time. If your nitrate is rising too then the tank is trying to cycle and I would just monitor it. Just do daily or every other day water change for now. Make sure you are using a dechlorinator too. As mentioned above some product would convert ammonia to ammonium but it will still register as ammonia on most test kit.

What fish are you using to cycle?

Hi Two doctors,have the following fish in my tank ,
4 glowlight tetra ,1 albino corry,2 bronze,2 pitbull plecos,3 armano shrimp,wasn`t my intention to do a fish in cycle ,was given wrong advice from lfs,didn`t even know about cycling was told to leave tank for three days ,and add fish in intervals.

They'll do fine without food for several days at a time. But you can probably get away with every other day. It's a good way to keep from overfeeding, too.

No they wont starve fish can eat very little and still survive

That's a lot of fish for 28L tank. The pitbull pleco will outgrow your tank for starter. Any chance of returning them?

I know,i`m looking for a 3 foot tank as just had built in cupboard done ,but only matter of weeks until i find right one hopefuly,just got to transfer media over when do ,was told that plecos would only reach 8cm though.!

'chloramine' is actually a generic term, covering all three of monochloramine NH[sub]2[/sub]Cl, dichloramine NHCl[sub]2[/sub], and nitrogen trichloride NCl[sub]3[/sub]. When a water company adds 'chloramine' it is likely adding a mixture of all three, though mono- will be the most common, and the tri the least common.

Fish only start to truly starve after a week without food. They're like humans in that aspect at least =)
