I bred platies a couple of times just for the fun. Kept a couple and then gave the rest if the fry and my females to the lfs. You may try that just for the fun if breeding.
I might also look into breeding muppies at some point... I've never seen such adorable little fish.

More than welcome, I have no idea about the market for guppies in the UK, but here in the states, unless they are specially bred, not so much...I donated dozens to my LFS long ago, when I too thought it would be fun to breed livebearers, lol...
my lfs gives me a litle 33.333~% when i sell guppies! i can use juvenile guppies to get some nice new type guppies

Set up the 2 foot tank with an air operated sponge filter so you don't lose babies to the filter.

Have lots of plants in the tank, especially floating plants like Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides). It is a perfect plant for baby fish and you can plant Water Sprite in the substrate or grow it on the surface. It grows rapidly and does well in most tanks.

Put a group of females in the tank, no males. Leave the females in there permanently and feed them well. Do regular water changes and gravel cleaning and let them do their thing. The babies should be able to grow up with the mothers and when you see young males, take them out and put them in a separate tank so they don't breed with their mother or sisters.

Most pet shops take adult guppies if they are good quality and good colour. They might also buy your surplus Water Sprite plants.

Thank you for all the tips!!

"The largest single delivery of fry by a Guppy, as far as we know, was recorded by Paul Hahnel, the well-known Guppy breeder. Mr. Hahnel reports a brood of 170 young from one female, although only 120 of them lived to maturity. Dr. Myron Gordon found 168 embryos in a large wild-caught Platy fish. Swordfish mature at six to eight months of age while Guppies are recorded as delivering their first brood when only 90 days old! Records kept of a female Mollie show that she gave birth to 570 young, through multiple births, in one year."
Livebearing Fishes BY JOHN DAWES 1991 , A record of 193 have been recorded

she started to give birth at 8.30pm By 2.30am she had 84 fry cheeked again in the morning she had another 57 giving a total of 141 fry.

Try finding a lfs that will take your excess fish before you start. Maybe even ask em what colour/type are most desirable and try specialising. @emeraldking would be the man to ask.

If I ever get my triple species tanks off the drawing board I’m hoping to turn the community tank into a guppy one.

Dont bother breeding them, Come here & take some of mine ?. More born last night, This morning & this afternoon?

Joking apart, Its fun to breed them & enjoyable to watch them grow up. Not being a killjoy but not so much fun when the fry take over all your tanks
to solve the problem get another tank be careful fish tanks can grow as fast as guppies at one stage I reached the total 130 tanks lol

How many guppies would you say can fit into a tank before it's considered "overcrowding"?

it's just a one-off when a guppy has such a large brood it had no effect on her whatsoever her average brood was about 40 fry I find a average size guppy have a brood between 30 and 50 fry

Me personally i have a 10 Gallon fry grow out tank, i normally ship them out when they start to colour up, but keep interesting ones for myself. This is usually around 4-6 weeks old.
I have 2 other community tanks a 30 Gallon & a 50 Gallon(not in use) so if i do have more than i can handle, They can be safely housed.
I had 300 fry before xmas & got rid of nearly all of them including the adults, Just keeping a few fry back for myself
