Short-bodied Fish On Aquabid

Haha, thats a pretty cool fish. I wish I had one, I'm going betta hunting soon cause I have a spare tank that i found in my storage building. I'm hoping I can go to different stores like wal-mart and petsmart and find a plakat male they're trying to sell as a female. I found one a few weeks ago but didnt think i had room. Lol

They are so cute!!! :D I want one! Or two, or more... actually I want 100 short bodied fry :D

They are absolutely adorable, but I agree, the $40.00 starting price was too high.

$40 going price in Thailand my butt, the Ebay one is from Thailand too and is only $24.99. Wear him down, Synirr! Looks like the same fish as well, makes me suspicious. -_-

Haha, the fish do look oddly exactly the same. Wear him down. lol i love how i type that and the song i'm listening too says "no I wont budge, wont budge"

what do you want to do with it, then, synirr?
Hey, they're cute, I don't care if they're not show-worthy by IBC standards :p
I was planning to breed it into my mini line so I could have small AND stumpy fish... that would be really cute. Then I might be able to show them in the Form Variations class if they were significantly different enough. Right now I show my minis in regular class (well, actually Novice, but I'll be moving to regular soon) because most of them aren't small enough at full size to be disqualified, but if I ever get them down smaller than the minimum for show, they'll be in Form Variations even without being short-bodied.

round bettas, perhaps? meatballs with fins

i wasn't aware they had a form variation class in the IBC. that's pretty cool. Now all your experimental stuff makes sense. I still think it would be funny if you tried to create a tailless line. then we'd have NT (no tail) fish. it would negate all tails, wouldn't it? the HMDTPKNT would look the same as any other NT fish :S

Funnier still, think of a HM betta with no tail... huge full dorsal and anal fins, then just nothing in the back
I'd like to see tailless plakats, personally, but it would have to be genetic for me to do it, and so far I haven't seen a genetically tailless betta.

Anyway, another seller saw my post (a copy of this thread) on another forum and linked me to one of his auctions... it's another short-bodied fish almost identical to the first one, but the starting bid is only $20. Even if I get outbid, I'm sure he has more :D

Knife bettas would be pretty cool, You know most people think genetically finless fish would be cruel to the animal but would it really be, I mean if its all they know then its not really cruel, it is cruel if you chop off their tails and stuff like I saw on a thread once.

it's not really cruel. If you watch the way fish swim, it's a 'S' sort of motion that uses the entire body. The fin only helps push a the water away a little quicker. It's like the difference between you kicking to propel yourself through water, and your kicking with flippers on to propel yourself through water. So they're swimming would be impaired, but no more than a betta with heavy finnage.
