Severum Fish

I was wondering what can be stocked with Severums? Is it just Cichlids or can any fish?

The tank isnt large enough for a severum alone, let alone any tankmates, minimum size tank for a severum is IMO 75g, however, some will say 55g, either way, 42g is definately not large enough for long term health, growth and happiness.

You can get a 55 or 75 rather cheap used. If you live in the states check out craigslist I find 55's on there all the time for around 100 thats with everything including stand.

i totally agree with minxfishy. 42g is no where near big enough. i have a 77g and that is big enough 1 sev and few friends. please listen to the advice people are giving. dont put a sev in that size tank. its not fair.

Yeah just to back up minxy 75g minimum IMO as well, I long for one when I have my big tank but Im just waiting till I get there. Far far to much of a nice fish to put in a small tank, their personalities are just too strong to coop up in a small tank

Well yeah but thats the same with any fish. A 1" aripama would be okay in a 42g but you house a fish in a tank suitable for life not for size when bought.

Thats very true Wills, but there are exceptions. For example you buy a fish and the tank you want to put him wont work right now because he is to small and would get eaten. So you put him in a smaller tank until he gets a little bigger then move him to the bigger tank. One key thing to this is I already had the bigger tank though, so if you dont have a bigger tank and just "plan" on getting a bigger one might not be a good idea cause things happen.

Got to love craigslist . I got my 55 gal with stand and lights for $60. I'm watching now for a 100+ gal.

I don't have a bigger tank yet my fish are still small and in a 55 gal yes some thing did happen I broke my arm so my fish have to wait a little longer for the big tank but it will happen.

Worst comes to worst if you find you can't get a larger tank and your fish outs grows the tank you have you can always bring to a Lfs or give it to some one here.

the original question was "I was wondering what can be stocked with Severums? Is it just Cichlids or can any fish?" The answer is many other fish can be put in with a severum into a 42g tank while they are small, but more room must be made to accomadate them as they get older or as said rehome!
I had mollies, platies, jack dempsey, green terror, silver dollars, festivum and a plec all in together in a 200l but they were all small as they got bigger I kept what I liked and rehomed the others!

I was looking at Festivums and they are quite nice, what space is required for them? I was thinking of maybe just one severum and a few rams in the 42g Or one Festivum and a Severum, or just one Severum, Or the last option just one oscar on its own.

The filters are cleaning 16x the tank capacity an hour if that helps.

oscar deffo no sev id say no aswell, my chocolate cichlid is in a 150us and i wouldnt keep him in much smaller and hes 8inch at present,,,,

have you googled the cichlids i said like Tbar or rainbow cichlid?

I did look, i like the T bar, fire mouth and convicts. Convicts have to be kept with other aggresive fish dont they? How about Tbars?
