Second Stage Cycle Started Today Help

Then, by days, you're a little over half way, and since you're seeing nitrites, that would tend to reinforce that you are in the second half of the cycling time period.

cool cool but as fun as palying with the fishes is daily i won't say i will miss the 2 to 3 times a day water changes but i got myself in to this listening to the lfs telling me once tank is up 3 days i can add fishies, man did i let him hear it too........

so i have seen none of the firsy batch of fry for since friday my guess is the all gone, i am keeping a close eye on the second platy have her in a birthing tank, hoping to save theses fry ,, since i have no male play's in tank i would like to try to keep a couple of them ........

so while i am typing this i am waiting for test readings

looks like

ammonia 0 to 0.25
nitrite 0
nitrate 0 to 5

ph 7.0

i will change water in morning before work...... should be ok for the night it is closer to 0 for ammonia,

yeah i bet you'll be glad when the cycle's done. but i really admire your attitude and determination in correcting the initial mistake and your obvious dedication to your fish. :good:

i am at a loss what to do i know my platy is preggo so i leave her in tank or put her in breeder net with all the water changes in and out of the trap may stress her out but i would like to try to save the fry, any thoughts on this one

ok second water change done that should get me thru the night with them , i will test again in the morning and see where it is at and do another if over 0.25 if it is not them once i get home from work , i need to get a net for the bottom of the pipe thingie them i could be getting ready for work and doing water change at same time .... :shifty: , without worring if i fishie goes down the drain  .....

i also lost a platy today hubby just told me when i thought she was hiding was the one that had the fry last week

so that makes fish lose now at 4

let hope we get this tank cycled before any more are lost

Well if it were me I'd just let the fry fend for themselves this time around since you are still cycling and things are just not ideal for more complicatons. There will be plenty more chances in the future probably to raise fry and you may soon find that it creates uncomfortable situations as no one wants to take them and its hard to go on adding more aquariums for them forever.

By the way, I like how you are posting. If there are other newbies out there they should take note that you are regularly posting up the results clearly and doing things like remembering to note that your temp holds steady.. all that sort of stuff. Good fishkeeping comes from really getting it ingrained to keep an eye on your tank, its stats and to consistently note things in your logbook and not be afraid to post up details clearly here on the forum when you want to share and learn.

all fish good,

think my platy had her fry tho , she looks smaller and no black belly :good:

Sounds like the fish like the good water. I always think you can truly see it in their alertness, fin spread and coloration.
