hello recently changed from gravel to sand in my tank and was wondering do i clean the sand the same as i did with the gravel cleaner im thinking the sand would leave the water all cloudy

Its a trick you have to master. You have to hover the end of the gravel vac over the sand and not suck up the sand. But if you do suck some up then just wash it through and put it back in. :)

Good Luck :good:

Since I changed to sand I find theres only a little bit to hoover up anyway! So much easier to maintain than gravel. As said, you need to master it, took me a couple of goes. Doing a whirling action above the sand should lift any dirt/mess off and you should be able to suck it up without taking much sand with it.

I don't find vaccuming sand hard at all. I've had sand for a month in my large tank and a few months in my former fry tank. I don't bother stirring the water around the mess but just hover maybe 0.5cm above it and it gets sucked up. After draining about 15 litres of tank water I only have about 1 tablespoon of sand in the bottom of the bucket.

Also, if you have properly washed your sand in the first place, little to nothing gets disturbed during cleaning that won't settle in minutes.
