Is it ok to put sand in freshwater tanks and if so does it require special care or maintnence

Playsand (argos, homebase ect) works perfectly fine if you're on a budget too as it's cheap and looks just as good most of the time.
Easier to clean then gravel too once you get the hang of it.

Oh well I just wanted to know cuz my neighbors got a tank and stand from his bearded dragon 10 gal he's selling me for $10 but I wasn't sure bout the sand in it cuz that comes with it too

Argos playsand, is only £2.99 for 15kg!! I use it in fish tanks, and it is easy to clean and looks really good. it is quite a light colour and I have not had any problems with it yet. Go for it! http/www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3650574.htm

as above, play sand is fine in tanks. best to give it a really good rinse though! get it in a bucket and rinse until the water runs clear. to be honest if in doubt, play sand is so cheap you can get a big bag for a couple of ££'s here, imagine the US would be similar.

If this is sand that was already in the tank with the bearded dragon, toss it out and get new sand. As mentioned, play sand is just fine (less than $3 for about 40 lbs.) and the only worry with that is that you have to rinse it and rinse it. But it's much better than gravel, easier to clean and keep clean, etc.

Toss out the sand, clean out the tank with hot water and a tiny bit of bleach, rinse really well and then start your fishless cycle.

I'm gonna clean really well in boiling water but BLEACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No bleach thank you very much

A few drops will assure all germs are killed and hot water and rinses will take care of the bleach.

Bleach very weak is commonly used to clean out tanks and other fishie stuff, very safe if done right so i've heard.
