I am working on putting together the equipment I will need to set up and run a 75 or 90 gallon tank this spring. It will be well stocked with fish so I am looking into a fluidized bed filter for my bio-filtration needs. The one I was looking recommended atleast 150p gph flow. Well, my question is, will a filtered powerhead be able to operate the filter rather than an air pump? Also, what would the max gph a fluidized bed filter could handle? The one in particular I am looking at is the Lifegard FB

:) Hi Redbelly, I run 2 of these filters on rift tanks.

They are run on pre filtered (mechanical, to stop the muck going in to the sand) water and must be power fed.

You will need to buy a powerhead of the correct rating and fit a sponge to the inlet.
I believe Aquaclear p/heads are available with a sponge filter attachment.

The rating of the pump is critical - too slow and it won't work - too fast and it will blast the sand out of the column. :(

Please be aware that FB's are very efficient and oxygen hungry, you'll probably need to fit extra aeration as well. Mac.
