Rocks For Tank

Right so the other day i asked my dad to get me some rocks for my tank. But he says its sandstone and i swear i read somewhere on the forum that it was a no no? Am i right in thinking this?

are you sure? i've read that sandstone is fine to use and i have used it myself with no ill effects.

from what i have read/tried it is perfectly safe as long as you scrub the rocks first.

I just go and collect some rocks from my local stream/river and scrub them really well then use them. It's cheaper.

I just do down to the lake and get some rocks I boil them and scrub them off. Granite , slate, and quartz are safe. there are many other that are not safe. you don't want a rock that will bring your ph up.

Lime stone, marble are a few not safe.

well, i've used sandstone many times, and it is totally safe, it's not safe if it has impurities in it, for example marble, but then, that isn't the actual sandstone.

I get mainly slate cause that's really all there is at my local stream.

there's nothing wrong with using sandstone, it's no more toxic than using the very thing that it's made of i.e compressed sand!
