Will amazon or argentine swords work or are they to high light for my lighting?

It's all my LFS has at the moment. They're supposed to get all the good stuff either tomorrow or Thursday.

I have amazon swords and my lighting is very similar to yours. Mine grow very slowly, but they do grow. The initial leaves will probably all end up dying on you, but watch for new little ones sprouting up. Some of them do better than others in different spots. Its hard to know for sure but it would be worth the risk, IMHO. I like my swords. If you see the sword in my sig pick, the one just to the left of my large vertical rock, it is now at least 5-8 times bigger than that with far more leaves. That one was listed as "small" when I got it. It is the one that is growing best for me. The others are growing much slower, but still growing.

Can I plant them in the gravel or do I need to do that trick?

No, these are plants that grow directly into the substrate. These can actually get quite extensive roots as well.

So how do I plant them?

Just push a little substrate to the side, stick in under the substrate and then push a little back over the roots. The roots won't start big, but they will grow.

Oh yeah that's how I planned to do it. Ok got it. Any other suggestions. I'm gonna get the plants tomorrow or Thursday then I'll call and see when they get a shipment.

I just called to see when the shipment would come and the lady I was speaking with today said the truck came 10 minutes after I left. . I guess I'll be going tommorrow I'm kinda angry she said shipment would be tomorrow or Thursday when it came right when I left.

Look on the bright side, it could be that they won't come until Thursday. This way you'll have them a day sooner.

I guess if only I could've just looked around to see if there were any types of fish worth buying another tank for for ten more minutes. Sigh.

which plants do you think would be best clumped for the fish to hide in?

Esscially the gouramis to hide in.

I have anubias, elodea, amazon swords and java fern. My gourami actually spends very little time hiding, but when he does it is in and around any of the plants. I don't think it matters. I have my elodea kind of spread out now and he likes to hang out in there from time to time. But, mostly he is out and exploring, looking for algae to eat off the glass or ornaments.

Ok I'll probably clump like 2 swords and 2 anacharis and that should be fine then spread the rest out.

So today, I caught my gourami hanging out in one of my swords. So, I guess they aren't that particular. The first day I got the gourami, it hung out in some of my fern. Then I've seen it hanging in my anacharis and now in the swords. I still haven't seen it in my anubias yet, but maybe tomorrow.



My gourami is going all over the tank, but he does like to hang out in the plants at different times. I wonder if that is where it goes to sleep...

Ok so got home from the store and I feel like I got a pretty good deal but not everything I wanted. All I got was anubias but it was attached to a piece of driftwood already and I was gonna buy a piece of driftwood anyway! It was only $10 too. They had swords but they were having a buy 2 get 2 free sale on all plants and they only had 2 plants I wanted. All the anacharis was gone because apparently all the biology students are using it for a dissection project. he also said they only get java fern on once a month and java moss only comes on moss balls. He said Friday was they're monthly java fern delivery date and they'd also be getting swords and anacharis so I'm going back Friday for the swords and anacharis and fern.
