Rehomed Some Chichlids

ive just rehomed some new fish from a fishkeeper who works away and cant keep them any longer. i rehomed 4 kribensis, 1 bristle nose plec, one other plec which is bout 5-6 inches, it looks like a common but he said hes had it years and it hasnt got very big and 3 cichlids. im sure of one of their identities but unsure of two. one im sure is a gold severum, the other looks like a convict cichlid and the other i believe looks like an acara of some sort. any info and advice would be greatly appreciated. here are some pics i took:

Hi wow those are some nice looking fish!

You are right with the red one being a Severum - The stripey one is actually a Frontosa - and the "Acara" is actually a Sajica which is a relative of the Convict but more peaceful out side of breeding however in breeding time they are one of the most aggressive fish around.... But the single specimen will be fine in a comm set up

How big is your tank at the moment as the Frontosa and the Severum are big fish both getting to about 10-12 inches maybe more for the Frontosa - but very nice fish at the same time and very peaceful for their size ...... hmmm youve got me wanting a Frontosa now.....

Agree with Wills, it looks from the picture like a female frontosa you have there from the slope of the head so looking around 10-12" males tend to be slightly larger. Although ok with the fish you have, as they are not aggressive, they are better off in a species only tank as they can get very skittish.

thanks for clearing things up, guess my first thoughts were wrong. as for tank size they are only in a 200litre with a few other fish including 2 parrot fish aswell which is a worry. believe it or not but they were all in a 125litre!!! as for space im getting a 500litre aquarium delivered at the end of this month so it is temporary. to be fair im unsure which im keeping or im going to rehome. fell in love with the severum already though although my parrots seem i bit miffed by him being there.

the frontosa seems to have settled the best and is by far the most peaceful. the sajica is the most aggressive so far but only seems to be staking a territory off the bolivian rams and keyholes. dont really want a fish that gets over 12 inches though so i might be rehoming the frontosa.

im quite friendly with a few round here. i know teesside koi will take it for free, also the new petmania in portrack are very friendly and ive spoke of swapping fish before so might be able to swap for something else there. out of interest how much do these fish usually cost??? where in teesside are you biffster???

Not sure of how they are priced around your area but Frontosas are often valuable fish especially over 6 inches in my area they are about £50 upwards of that.

What size is the frontosa, she looks like a burundi to me (most popular) the zaire are one of the most expensive sorts. Birmingham prices on frontosa roughly 1-2" £5-10 2-4" £10-15, 4-5" £20+ (4" and above usually are breeding size) being felmale (80% sure from pics) you would get a little more.

Lucky person,some nice fish you got there, already been id That sajica,looks stunning,male i beleive,frontosa's a nice specimen aswell, If i was you id keep them and rehome the parrots,unless there the true parrots< Hoplarchus psittacus ,hehe

think im going to keep them for my large aquarium then decide then. the frontosa is around 5 inches so if i do rehome him ill remember she aint too cheap. im defo keeping the parrots, i know they arent to many peoples tastes but i like them and my girlfriend likes them even more.
