Hi,
during a bit of hunt around today I came across some wood which had been submerged for awhile and was more than likely washed down in a flood.

I cleaned it and it came up ok,when I cut a section off,I noticed that the core was redish,so I am making the assumption that it could be redgum, now redgum is a tree of the genus Eucalyptus,I had a smell of it and it did not have the distinct odour of redgum (when we use it for firewood it does have a distinct smell).

Being in Australia some of you may not be familiar with this wood,so,do you think I could use this in my tank for driftwood or not take the chance.

Apologies for the amount of posts I am throwing at this forum, but be assured every answer has given me more knowledge than I knew before.

Thank you.

I'm fairly sure that eucalyptus is toxic to fish, so I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks fluttermoth,

darn it is a cracker piece of wood as well, looks like the LFS will take my dollars, they charge an arm and a leg here.

Appreciate the quick reply.

P.S Ironic I was born in Cornwall......Penzance.

lol, it's always the stunning bits of wood you find that you end up not being able to use, it's happened to me loads of times and it's very annoying!

Sod's Law, I guess ;)
