Quarentine Tank

I have a plan that i need to know if it will work or not...

I have a 10 gallon tank that i plan on using as a quarantine/hospital tank however i do not wish to keep it running all the time. I do however have the filter that goes with it running on one of my main tanks and my plan is that when i need to take the filter off of the main tank and use it to kick start the quarantine tank, would this work? if so how long after i set up the tank before the new fish can go in it, if this will not work what are some other options?

Keep the filter running on your current tank, then when you need the quarentine you take the filter and put it in your quarentine tank and also do a water change from your existing tank the filter came from and fill your quarentine tank 50% of that tank water. Fill both tanks up with whatever source you usually do. Providing you have a heater that can be used in the quarentine tank also you should be absolutely fine doing this.

Snap, I keep a spare internal filter running, spare heater and do the same as James just fill up hospital/quaranteen tank from one of the other tanks and instant tank.
