Possible Stocking For 60 Gallon

How does this sound for a 48 x 12 x 24, 60 gallon tank with an Eheim 2215 canister filter and sand substrate.

8 Congo Tetra
2 angelfish
6 bronze corys
2 bolivian rams
some shrimp and a snail or two

(Aquaadvisor says this is 100% stocked)

Maybe I wrote that wrong...this tank is 24 inches deep and 12 inches in width and 48 in length.

If you're looking to get more fish is it possible to go to an 18" depth? I'm planning a similar tank now with pretty much the same stock list, rams, tetras & cories.

If so using your stocking list above a 65 gal 36x18x24 would be at 89% and a 75 gal 48x18x20 would be at 69%, but you might have to rethink the angels on the 75 since I think they need more height.

im pretty sure the angelfish will eat your shrimp... like nearly all cichlids. If you're going for a community tank, which it seems you are, i'd go without the angelfish... you could still have a couple large fish with less compatibility problems. thats just an opinion though, if you want angels that setup will be nice.

A great selection of fish IMO (very similar to what I have in my 70 Gal). Although as niceguy says your shrimp may be at risk. Some angels are much more predatory on small fish/shrimps than others. It will depend on the size of the shrimp and the individual preferences/personality of the angels.

It's not just the angels, the rams may have a go too. Depending on the shrimp you want to get it's up to you. I wouldn't try it with more expensive shrimp like cherry, I'd would try it with ghost though.

Sounds good to me Karin. Best to stick with just the pair of the dwarf Flags though. Should be a lovely tank.

Yeah sounds really nice could probably go for a few more cories IMO.

Good to see someone going for dwarf flags or rather laetacaras, any idea which one your going with? There are three commonly found species: Dorsiger, Curviceps and sp. Buckelkopf. Though Buckekopf is probably the hardest of the three to find. Quite a few different .sp types coming around at the moment though.

Thanks Wills. Actually it was you that got me looking at laetacaras curviceps! Another post I read. I'll look at the other two. I already have two bolivian rams in another tank...which I love... but want to branch out. Have no idea where I'll be able to get them. Probably have to venture off my mountain into the big cities of Sacramento or San Francisco.

I'm assuming I want a male and female. Stick with two? And are they easy to sex when juvenile?

I'm getting excited here...but have to proceed slowly. The tank just sits bare naked. Husband getting the substrate this week and I'm waiting for my Eheim 2217... then cycle with mature media from my other tank and then... well you get the picture. Patience, not my strong suit.

Sexing is quite hard, the males are more colourful which is often hard to tell in store conditions. But they also have longer dorsal fins and are generally bigger.
