Hello all. Well great news .... Currently running a 120 ltre tank with 4 green & 4 tiger barbs, lemon tetras & Harlequin rasboras ( Barbs new to me so, so far so good!! . (my Mrs & I also have a 90 ltre for her, I think around a 60ltre isolation tank we've just got and a 20 ltre tank for my mum we been cycling, etc & has been used as an isalation/hospital tank for our pregnant mollie of which my other has succesfully raised the full 4 fry ... Now we got guppy fry too!!! lol) But ... Now via flea bay hopefully, fingers crossed all goes well may av a 5ft tank coming!!!!! . Questions are ... If the tank measures 5ftx2ftx18" what capacity is it?! ... And (maybe jumping the gun but hey.. What else is new!! Tho have to add ... Failing to plan is planning to fail!!! he he) What could I add with the fish I already have?! Do love EBJD's and also the Apisto thingamy bobs but all suggestions welcome as I am still very much a novice & brief tips too from you very knowledgable fish keepers out there if you please?! .
Very happy day so avin a beer or several to celebrate!!! .
Thanks to all & by the way ... This is, in my humble opinion THE best fishy site out there!! .

Hi, sounds like your pretty excited to say the least :)

If you look on the navigation bar of this website there is a section called calculator. You can use the tools there to calculate tank sizes. I did it for you and the new tank works out at 425 liters which is around 90 gallons :)

So its a good sized tank. Just to check though its 5 foot long, 2 foot wide (front to back) and 18 inches tall?

Are you keeping the 120 liter tank? If so what are the numbers like in your current tank? Just wondering if you like Apistogrammas they would do well in there with those fish and then if you like things like EBJD they would go well in the 5 foot tank.

In your title you ask about tank size for Biffs? Do you mean Vieja Bifasticious (spelling)? If the tank is 2 foot wide then yes it would be big enough for a Biffa or any of the Viejas really.

Volume is easy. You have about 15 cubic feet and it is 7.5 US gallons to the cubic foot, close enough. I get 112 gallons so it is probably rated as 120 or so. The ratings are always that far off.

Thanks for the replies gents. Yes those measurements are right. Yes it seems it us a decent size. Nic just av to work out how to collect it from the other side of the country!!!
I've been doing some research and I'm really liking the apistos & kribs. Will both of these if in pairs go together in my 5ft tank along with my other fish stated above?
My partner is swapping from her 90ltr to my 120ltr then we are getting rid of two of our other tanks but keeping an extra one as an isolation tank.
Oh, do love ENJD's but I don't think they will go with my other fish so think I will stay with my current wish list!! In anycase, I will post up for stocking suggestions when the time comes!! .
Thanks again for the help.

Kribs are bottom fish. The apistos I have seen also seem to hang near the bottom so I would be a bit careful about housing them together. I am not certain about apistogramma since I have never kept them. but I would approach that with caution.

Yes I thought it may cause a problem but thought hey, you never know!!
Again, thanks for the help/advice!! .

If the tank is 2 foot wide you will be fine with a few pairs of each, though you could do a pair of Kribs and a large hareem of Apistos so 1 male multiple females.

Wills :)

Wills, as per above. If they are all bottom dwellers will it not cause problems??? Clearly I want a harmonious tank. Think I need to do more research.
Cheers.

Yes they are both bottomish dwellers and take up territories how ever it is reasonably safe to mix cichlids in this size tank. This is a large tank for dwarf cichlids and they will have more than enough places to stake out territory - however if your not into that then fair enough. Personally though I would not worry.

My tank is a little bigger than yours, a bit longer but a bit less width. I keep larger cichlids like Geophagus and Severums and my tank is a reasonably average tank in the numbers, I keep a few rarer species than most though :)

Have a search on youtube for Apistogramma Tanks and you will see quite a few good examples of them being mixed.
