Please Help Me!

 well im glad to be part of the group!

i attached 2 pics of my poor lil fishy on here. yes, it looks bad. i dont know how I didnt notice what was going on. Ive never heard of these diseases and when he got sick I just figured his time was up. People were telling me he is just getting old and hes dying. But then I started to research it on the net. I live in Iowa and we had that big storm come through. Well I had to leave my house ASAP b/c of power lines falling down and a big tree next door that was falling apart..but anyways..I put a lil bit of food in his bowl and left thinking he would be okay. I was gone for.. 3 days I believe. And thats when I started to notice his fins. But anyways..in the one pic his water is green b/c of the medicine. my camera isnt very good also.

Oh yea.. his name is Gussy :)
I dont have any pics of him from before. I have one that I took on my cell phone so I will put that on here [the little picture]

Aww, he's a pretty boy. I can't really tell too well from the pix, but is he supposed to be all green or is his body normally white? He doesn't look too bad to me, but I'm no expert. Good luck!

Thanks :) he was my fav one at the store. I got him at Walmart. I was there on a Thurs looking at their fish..oh my..the tanks were SOOO dirty. and there were 2 dead fish in one tank. I went back on Sat and the dead fish were still in there! poor fish. Hes got a whitish body. I dont have a very good camera and I tried to zoom in and it didnt work all that great.

So what should I do about feeding him? He wont eat. I put him in a smaller container when I was cleaning out his bowl and I put food in it and he still wouldnt eat. It is probably b/c he is stressed out but I am starting to worry b/c he hasnt had food in awhile. Do you think if I put aquarium salt in his bowl that it will help him?

Hmm hard to say from the pic, his tail is a bit gone, but not excessively bad. He might not be eating due to stress, sometimes thy are really funny and wont eat in front of you. What have you been feeding him? A little salt can help stop infections sometimes and sometimes perks them up, IAL would be better

IAL?? What is that? I am going out of town today so I am stopping at PetCo to check out their stuff. I have been feeding him BettaMin Tropical Medley-The Vibrant Blend.

Bettas can usually go 2-3 weeks without eating. I know that when I don't feel well, eating is low on my list so maybe he feels similar. Have you tried any different kinds of food like frozen Baby Brine Shrinp or Bloodworms? That will usually perk up any betta

IAL is indian almond leaves, you can buy the leaves or the extract (betta spa)

Try with the blood worms, if he doesnt eat those try the frozen or live ones

Thank you, I will have to try that. He usually doesnt go up to the top of the water now. I might have to put him in a container with food and see if he will eat it. Last time I did this I kept him in there for a good 45 mins and left him alone. But all the food was still there

IAL is Indian Almond Leaf extract. It naturally occurs in their native habitats, it's the extract from the leaves. It turns the water a little tea colored (I kind of like it, looks very natural) and the bottle goes a long way.
I really hope he pulls through for you, it's funny how attached we get to a wee little grumpy fish, isn't it?

sounds interesting. sounds like something you cant get at PetCo or Earl May though  I will def. look into it today.

You should be able to buy online, you can get the leaves on ebay, you must be able to get the betta spa online in the US, you can in the UK.

Aww, poor little guy--I went through the same thing. I had success using a very clean dechorinated dropper and fed him thawed bloodworms. No betta can resist that. But when they are at the bottom, unable to swim, there's not much they can get. Sorry, hope he gets better.

Kat~

I use those flakes and blood worms too (the exact brands you have pictured). Some of mine won't eat the flakes but all eat the blood worms. Sometimes they won't eat the larger pieces (or some are just too dry I think) and they spit them right out, but they keep trying. It's cute to see how they eat them compared to the pellets. The gracefully eat the pellets, but sneak up on the blood worms and grab them as if they will swim away. I have the frozen stuff but it was pretty gross (maybe just the kind I bought) and blood was everywhere when I would use it. I just have 9 fish in that tank though and they don't eat it fast enough..well they literally ravish it, but it's just a lot of food. Oh and be careful, because they CAN stink up your freezer. I use to nanny for a lady who's freezer always smelled like frozen brine shrimp, even they she had them packaged and wrapped in a plastic bag.

Mine are usually very still the first few days or week and a half, and don't eat for at least that long sometimes..so if that's his only symptom I wouldn't worry about it. If he doesn't eat after a week and a half or 2 weeks, then I would probably try the frozen or live stuff.

He still wont eat. I put 1/2 teaspoon of aquarium salt in his bowl the other day. How often can you put that stuff in? I was staring at him last night looking at his fins and what not. It looks parts of his tail is clearish/reddish. I cant really describe it. Is this good or bad?

edit: after looking at the pics I put on here earlier..i think his tail is getting better. i will take another pic sometime today.
