Let me try again... Previous attempt bombed out...... I got these plants off e-Bay.... (Bid or Buy in South Africa).....

I've never been worried about plants, but since these are "Unknowns" to me..... I need advice.... I have received them, and just chucked them into an outside pond (4hours of direct sunlight)..... What are they really, and what should I do????

Advertised as Norrow leafed Java Fern

HI Im kind of new to this but I might be able to advise you on the first plant i.e(Advertised as Norrow leafed Java Fern),
Im not sure if it is the right name, others will know but what you can do for sure : get a knife and split it into 3-4 separate plants as it seems
it has the ability to propagate this way.leave 2 leaves with each new plant. This should work I believe(I was studying forestry and have some knowledge about biology and plants so hope others can confirm this)
the marino ball just put inside tank(think I read somewhere it can be divided, don`t have it myself inside tank),
the last plant looks like a moss that could be either used as a wall for background or onto wood or bottom (reason why it is attached onto the net)
Hope this helped a bit... good luck.

Thanks for the reply Jahodienka, it's given me a bit more insight. How do I propogate the Marimo balls..... are they actually a plant???.... and will the others mentioned survive (or flourish) in 4 hrs direct sunlight???

Marimo balls are actually a type of algae. It does propogate with spores, but the average hobbiest will probably find that splitting the ball yields good results. I second the narrow leaf java fern advice. :good: but I'd say let it grow a bit before splitting. It's been under packing and some stress, so it'll need some recovery time.

As for the moss...

Can we have a close up picture, LV? It's hard to id mosses from far away. Many will have both a submerged and emersed growth varient. My guess, it's one of the common varieties, probably java moss, but you can never tell.

Now, LV, you know you gotta check the list... Who knows what sort of contraband I'm giving you advice on.

Yep!... I am the average hobbiest, so you suggest that I cut my balls in half???..... if it dies, I'll blame you.

In the interim, I've put it into one of those cotton plant containers with 2 x fertilizing pills.... hope it survives (and grows) in 4 hours of direct sunlight per day)

Probably is.... But, I won't tell if you will not.

I'm Bumpin this one, as I still have no conclusive reply about the propagation of my marimo balls..... It is healthy and alive, but how do I get a second and third ball???..... please advise planted people???

You are in a bumpy mood today. To split a marimbo ball, it's not a solid ball, simply cut and then it'll spread out flat. You can then cut the pieces and reform balls. Kind of like clay, from what I hear from other hobbiests. Has yours grown any since we last chatted about their propogation?
