As posted other day ph has crashed. To 6.2 my tap water is 7 over the last few days I have done almost a 100% water change and turned co2 off. And my ph will not rise above 6.2 I am starting to lose fish now. I really don't no what to do please some one help. My baby discus is not looking pleased :(.,

Have you done a 100% water change in stages? If you have not done it in one go then you have not affected your pH as much as you would like to think; you haven't actually changed 100% of the water. Change a large amount in one go.

What sort of fish do you have that you are losing?

Mollies and some barbs. Should I do a full water change then.

Mollies prefer an alkali water (plus a little aquarium salt I believe but don't quote me) so you need to get your ph to be at least 7 and preferably 8 so I would do a big water change. Check you tap water though as it may be a little acidic in which case a water change won't change much. Unfortunately your tetra's don't want the water to particularly alkali so you'll need to really aim for pH of 7 to be fair to both species.

trying to debate weather to put a piece of coral in the sump to get a stable ph?? i no i will have to keep testing ph and as it drops replace it. is this right

changing your substrate to coral sand or adding ocean rock would definately up your PH, i use this but i am aiming keep malawis, alternatively you could use bicarb of soda, i am currently cycling and part way through mine went down to 6.0 (my tap is 7.6) so i added bicarb of soda

tap water PH should be fish tank PH, pissing about with it causes problems.

Tizer how you doing mate? I agree with you. My tap water is 7 but after I do my water change it goes down to 6.2 and won't rise so I have put a small amount of crushed sand in my sump to try and get it back up to 7 and that's a long term fix rather than a short term fix (bicarbonate )

kinda stuck with smaller water changes then but thats not so bad (so you dont ph shock them)

all good mate, ta, 8 month old keeping me busy :)
