Ph Of 6.4

Ok I have been having slight pH problems,

i am constantly getting about 6.4-6.6 i want it to be like 7.4

my tap water is 7.2

but then i realised, is it actually bad? I plan on having zebra danio, bristlenose plecs and yoyo loaches which are all suitable for that pH range, but I am worried about the yoyo loaches as it says 6.5 as a minumum

should i leave it at, if it aint broke dont fix it?

i have just been using de-chlorinated tap water, i have two massive 4000 litre outside tanks, should i use the water in them?

any advice would be appreciated

6.4- 6.6 will be fine for most common fish as long as you aclimatize them to it slowly.
how big is the tank because thats a good ph for most ciclids and catfish so you might ba able to keep a few of them insted of some fish.

Are you injecting CO2? does the tank contain wood or any leaves?

hi, are you still cycling....if so pH 8 is the opitimum pH for cycling, so need to add some sodium bicarb to increase the pH. 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons. once you have cycled do a 90% water change, and place fish in your dechlorinated tap water and they should be fine. Hope that helps

there are pretty basic live plants but no CO2, there is also a big chunk of driftwood, although it has been throughly soaked before I put it in (but I have read that tannis will leech out for a long long time)

I did a fish in cycle that finished mid last week, i used 4 zebra danio which are still in there nothing else has changed, I have read that adding things to change the pH is not reccomended, I have KH and GH salts but have never used them as i cannot test for them

i have also tried partial water changes to change the pH but it just remains the same

it will proberly be the woodthen. i wouldnt worry my ph in my 14g is about 6.2 and the 30g is 6.5 so you could have a look throught the stock i have (in my sig) see if theres any you like.
if i where you i would go for
1 bn
5 yoyo loaches
6 corys or 3 upside down catfish or 2 banjo catfish or another bn
a trio of apisto or a pair of rams or keyholes or convicts
6 zebra danios
pair of angel fish or gouramis

wow that seems alot, i would be more then happy to have that,

I was planning on getting

10 zebra danios,
2 bristlenose plecs
and 5 yoyo loaches

aqAdvisor said that i was at 102% stocking capacity with that setup

do you think there is much point in buying 2 BN's aswell as 10 zebras? I was going to go for 6 but thought i may aswell go all out, i would love some keyholes though i intended on having a pair of them and the rest minus 4 zebra danios but thought it may be too much

how many lph dose your fillter do?
im not that keen on aqAdvisor i prefer just to go more by my water stats and aslong as it dosnt look to crowded.
so is this the sort of thing you want

that looks like a good stock to me.

i think it is like 1100 lph it might even be more,

yeh a stocklist like that would be ideal probably pass on the angelfish though not a huge fan haha, well maby I will do that, I will see how my stats look after I add the BN and Danios on tuesday.

thats a good amount of filteration then that stock should be fine.
what about gouramis do you not like them either?

haha noo, i am a big fan of pearl gouramis

but i guess i just have a thing for loaches, i wanted polka dot loaches but they are too rare and expensive, so I settled for yoyos as they would fit in my tank opposed to clown loaches, which I also like. Dwarf loaches would be more practical but are more expensive then yoyos

I dont know why I like BN either, i do alot of saltwater fishing in australia and catch flathead (dont know if your are familiar with them), i guess they just remind me of them haha. One day i plan to buy a zebra or spotted frog pleco. pretty big investment thought

and i originally wanted a school of neon or cardinal tetras, but i now respect the zebra danio (weird lmao) for being such a hardy fish, as i cycled with them, and have decided i would like to make a bigger group.

and i kind of wanted a cichlid to change things up, but angelfish, i dont know, whenever i go to a fish store my parents are always like "they are so cute get them... i guess they seem to mainstream to me" lol

but i am quite easy as i am still new

you could havew a pair of pearl courami they should be ok in there.

i quite like bns aswell especially fully grown males with the huge bristles. i have a pair in my tank a brown female 5" and a small albino male only 3"

i dont agree with ya there i quite like angelfish i just brought 4. some of the types are quite common but there are alot of diffrent and wierd coloured and pattened once you juuts need to keep your eye out till you found a pattern you like :]

this amount of fish in a 14 gallon is far too many surely, only 14 inch of fish should be allowed...and thats their adult size6 zebra danios accounts for 9 inches on their own, or am i wrong...i was told no more than 12 neons, or 9 minnows, or 2 guoramis+2 loaches, so their total adult length = 14 inches
plus wood is defo the culprit, i was advised against having it in a small tank

and the 1" per gallon rule isnt very acurate

why wouldnt you advise having wood in a small tank?
its good it gives fish alot of places to hide.
