Personable Predator!

perhaps just a bristlenose catfish for algae eating.

How should the decor be? Right now the tank is conpletely bare, and I would like to keep decor to a minimum as this is a "wet pet" tank for a single polly, and both bottom and back are black to enchance the fishes colors. How would it be if I added a piece of wood, big enough for the polly and catfish to hide under, and either Java moss or anubias attached to it? Or should I decorate generously?

Bristlenose Plecs dont eat algae that much, you need to supplement their diet with veggies. Wood is perfectly fine for Polypterus mine loves nothing more than to hide in it, sit on it and generally mess about around it.

I got two words for ya
Belonesox belizanus :good:

Crickey, I woudn't say that. Every tank I've had them in has been free of algae. They got to work on it like there is not a second to lose. Just goes to show how fish can differ in behaviour.

Yes. I ment that the color contrast would be cool.

Then I'll just go with a albino senegal. Maybe I'm weird, but I just love those red eyes!

And I should have added......Some easily found predators. As far as I know, belonesox has never been imported into Korea, and I won't keep ANYTHNG that needs live foods to survive.

Decor......I've planned to add a single piece of wood with anubias attached. My water is a bit hard(About 7.2), and the wood had been boiled 2 times before, so I don't think there'lll be to many issues with water.

Don't eat algae much?! IME, every single one of my BNs ate algae! Right now my male needed some fasting so get the algae off my anubias leaves, but the walls are always clean. And I have tons of plant-eater food left over from my tropheus feeping days, plus a bag jam-packed with algae wafers, and I can get more. But I do personally think otos eat more algae than BNs, and are more efficient. Just too small to house with polyps!

Post pics later about the angle of how to position my driftwood :good:

go with the rainbow snakehead, heres an old pic of mine, he hides a lot now so no new pics as of now.

I'm gonna attach some anubias to it. Which way do you think would be best? I think that it should be in a way that the polly(And maybe snakehead and ctenopoma :shifty: ) could hide. Of course I could add more decor(Gravel, hornwort, more wood, floating log) but this will be the number 1, and the bare minimum.

haha, pic 2 and five make the driftwood look like a dinosaur lol, anyway, back to the point, the snakeheads are great, but Channa Bleheri (the one pictured) is expensive.

i got u hooked on snakeheads huh? i dunno whether to apologize or say "good" lol.

are far as which way to position the driftwood, i would say whichever way makes the nicest cave underneath it is the way to go.

ps. in the second pic of the snakehead, did u notice the little zigzag eel behind the snakeheads head? that eel is awesome, and maxs at about 4" lol

Yeah well, the one I can get is bleheri too, and costs 20000won($20) So I can get it either with my birthday present(Praying to God that they don't sell out till March) or get one now! Ha

I once was so hooked up on them I was planning on selling my big tank and all that to keep some snakeheads in this tank, for the hope of getting a breeding pair. But due to the total expense(Very big!) I didn't. But one would still be cool, considering the colors.

I guess 6 would be best. I asked, and I decided!

And I don't really like spiny eels; besides, the only ones I can get are tiretrack and fires.

Now I'll first buy some anubias, and get some bloodworms in case the SH and polly are picky at first.

Thanks!!

only 20bux??? wow, in canada they cost 100 bux, not sure how much that is in won though, i got mine for 40 and thought that was an ultimate deal LOL

Yeah well I'm a kid! Who just spent $60 on an external filter! And has set up a tank he promised not to in his room(Lol kidding)

Well, I'll update soon. And any other ideas concerning personable predators will be great!

South american leaf fish grow small at 4inches long so can fit in a 30gal and are predatory;

If you're talking about *the* SA leaf fish then I don't think it would be suitable as the thread starter asked for something personable and something that eats well.
Firstly, as a fish that tends to hide amongst plants in one place all day waiting for a fish to swim by I wouldn't say it is personable.
Secondly, very few specimens will take anything other than live fish. Additionally this fish is particularly picky and will eventually die if not in very soft acidic water.
Just take a look in our profile of it on tff.

Nevertheless the tank size would be ok for a pair I think if up for a challenge :good:
