i hope this is in the correct section on the forum.
i was just wondering what ppl thought of these fish and wether people condone having them especially with all the dying and dodgey bred ones. id never buy a dyed fish but i do liek the look of the orange ones??

just noticed theres a forum for hybrisd sorry this can be moved if thats okay =]

These are hybrid fish. They are a result of a mixed breeding that would have never happened in nature. I don't think they are that bad personally, but some people don't like them.

I don't have a problem with them. I have one that I bought in my newbie days that I have had nearly 6 years. It's a cool fish with a ton of personality. I have grown to appreciate natural looking fish so knowing what I know now, I wouldn't purchase one, but I certainly wouldn't flame anyone else for doing so (as long as they are not dyed or mutilated). Honestly I don't see why people make such a big fuss about them. It's not like they are getting out into the wild or anything; most of the males can't even reproduce. They are a fun fish to keep, just make sure you have a big enough tank. Mine is fully grown at about 8 inches TL and they are quite full-bodied fish. I'd say 55 gallons minimum for an adult, although mine enjoyed the upgrade to a 75 gallon. :)

Each to their own really, although I do not like and would never knowingly buy hybrid fish. I think its your tank and you keep what you like. Its not the parrot owners that bother me, its the people who pass hybrids off as "New fish" and some new comers to the hobby buy these fish and end up passing hybrids around the hobby.

i would never buy one, they look so deformed, i learnt my lesson with the stupif fancy goldfish, their swim bladder went after a week, they look so freaky i wouldnt even begin to think about keeping one, nor thinking about liking the look... if it were me i would go for sevs, or firemouth cichlids, if you like these sorts of fish

personally there ugly in my oppinion, but however the true parrot fish

AVOID THESE LIKE THE PLAGUE

I think they are pushing the limits of acceptable practise but as long as they are not dyed or abused I wouldn't boycott a shop for selling them or be upset that someone should keep them. Aesthetically however I find them extremely ugly and would certainly not want to keep them myself.

i have a piar of blood parrots that are a proven breeding pair. the male is 3" and the female is 4". they are also both for sale together £30. collection only.

Just saying they have bred is not real proof

I like them. I love everything to do with hybrids and hybridisation. No matter what they are and how they look, they are very personable intelligent fish.

its wrong and is not meant to be, if a dog was born as mutilated as these fish it would be put to sleep. They are ugly and there are plenty of more personable fish on the market!

Not really, many dogs are bred to be just as mutated. Just look at English bulldogs

english bulldogs don't have deformed spines or swim bladder issues!

each to their own, my opinion is that they are ugly. and there are cases of hybrid fish getting into waterways, truth is though (such as in australia) koi's are desturbing natural habitats and causing issues just as a flowerhorn would.
