Oscar Breeding?

Oscar breeding?
Can some one tell me more about this?
I have two oscars. how can you tell if they are a male or a female? Mine seem to "flirt" the way I have seen other fish, but how can I know for sure? What types of things and conditions would they need to breed?
My fish are already about 4 inches long and do a lot of rubbing together.

As Oscars dont show no sexual differences that i know of the only way i know of sexing is to watch while they are spawning. When the female is ready and the pair are ready the her tube will become visible on her and that is the only way i know

Usually Oscar wont start to breed to around 12-18mth of age, at 4" they are too small. As mentioned there is no way of telling the sex of them unless they spawn. There is often lots of lip-locking before they start (although this can also be a sign of aggression), cleaning of rocks or slate, moving of gravel.

Agreed,oscars are impossible to sex,people have theorys but there are no real ways except with the breeding tubes...there is a name when you cannot sex a fish from external apperences,but i cannot remember..

My pair which have breed for someone else,have been cleaning rocks/digging pits,having some major lip lock etc,chasing everything away from there chosen spot,even tubes appeared very prominant,but as of yet nothing,unless which is quite possible the eggs have been eaten in my community tank...

As stated mating rituals mirrors fighting very much, its a test of strength and wether or not the males worthy enough to spawn with the female..
