A question I should probably already know the answer to... How do Anemone's and any other marine animal that's Photosynthetic, actually gain it's symbiotic algae in the first place? Do they grab it from the water column, or does it appear from another source. Obviously once the algae is in, it will multiply in the animal, but how does it get there in the first place?

Thanks

Never thought of that before......lol

I have no idea, I would guess that they inherit the algae from the "parents", and the parents got it from their parents and so on right back to when they evolved this symbiotic relationship.

Looking forward to someone shedding some light on it! :D
