One For The Badis Lovers Out There...

Just a wee update. (already said this in my thread) I don't think they are rainbows( think they were miss labeled) I think they are intact scarlets coloration suggests this

Here's hopping, another member who keeps them said that they are scarlets.

I went over to MA earlier initially to sort out a co2 refill and found they had some scarlet badis in........

I was really, really disappointed though because there wasn`t the slightest glimmer of colour on any of them. They were so bland that I thought they had to have been all female but I then saw what I think was about 4 males in there but even they looked really grey with only slightly darker markings.
I was very tempted to get some, I thought they`d possibly colour up once they were settled into a tank but mentally slapped myself into realising that I haven`t really got enough room for then at the moment no matter how much I`d like to get them

Out of interest, would it have been likely down to the fact they were in a tank at the lfs that they were so pale and bland??

I belive they transform massively in a home tank that is well planted, so much so that buyers can accidentally end up buying multiple males, which will cause major aggression problems in a typical (small) home tank.

Its common in Scarlet Badis to be dull and gray. Mine are dull and gray!
I expect them to colour up with in a year or so

So
Wills and Elisew how are your badis getting on in there new homes now they have had a while to settle in.
I am starting to see some personalities shine thuw in mine.
The male will spend most of the up top under the water lettuce and in and out of the new clump of moss on top of the stump.
The females each have there own little bit of the tank and stay mainly at the bottom until the male shows them some interest then all the females start darting around the tank like their tales or on fire.
The male is also fascinated by the out let on the filter and the very bottom of the heater.
So hows yours doing ??

Mine seem to be doing well thanks alex

One of the females is out and about all the time, she spends ages staring at the filter and I put some frogbit with long roots in the tank this morning so she`s staring up at them now, she`s actually quite funny to watch
The male and other female are beginning to spend more time out and about, I think putting the pygmy corys in the tank has helped them to feel a bit more confident.
The males` colour has improved, he still has moments where he looks a bit pale whereas at other times he looks quite bright.

I think they`re fab little fish

What drew my attention was that they suggest a normal temp of 23-25C, but a slightly cooler period at times, just like the Myanmar winter!

Given that the auction is coming to a close at Kesgrave in the next few days, this new temp info has made me extremely tempted!

It states on that article that they refuse to crossbreed so I`m wondering now whether or not I could actually add the Scarlets to the same tank after all

Does seem to be some very contradicting info between PFK and SF profiles, so maybe you could mix the two species...
