prettiest Badis badis...

I've kept scarlet badis in a 5 gallon tank. They're really fun fish. One of them died of a fungal infection; I suspect I had two males and there was some fighting going on when I wasn't looking. When I tore down the 5g I put the remaining male in the 55g hillstream tank. He hangs out in the calm areas and I see him once in a while.

I have a group of female and male scarlet badis in a 40 gallon for the past 4 years. They breed regularly and are a great little fish with interesting behaviors. Unfortunately, I added 6 Asian Stone Catfish a year ago and they reguarly eat all the badis eggs now. Just saw some fry this week, which hasn't happened in a year.

Thanks! They are great fish. They do best in species-only tanks because in a community tank larger or active fish make them nervous.
That suits me perfectly . I keep species only aquariums for all my fish . I think that all fish show their best and true behaviors when kept by themselves . The anabantid fishes have always been my favorites and although these Badis are not anabantids the spawning behavior is interesting to watch . I also really like any fish native to India .

This is so cool! I had a male once and couldn't find a female for love nor money. I love scarlet badis and badis badis, they are amazing little fish.

saw this picture on Dan's tonight... not sure where this picture came from, and or how highly filtered it is, but I've never seen one like this...View attachment 377146

I've never had a badis before are they like a wimpy cichlid, more like a barb, or???
I've got Badis badis overhere as well. But mine aren't as beautiful colored as this one.
