water meter and he doesnt do lots of little ones, he does one huge one. every month or so, costs £10 a week for normal water usage, i may be wrong im just going off what i can remember from my convo with his girlfriend!

is a water meter really that steep? i remember on my old 5x2x2 i paid £18 a month, that included all my personal and waste water too

I have to agree, that is a little steep, with the repairs been done for the price I would expect a fully running marine set up IMO. But good luck with the sale.

The other thing, he may have over estimated it, so it doesn't sell, and he gets to keep the tank lol

been there done that all jokes aside tho as with any second hand item its only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it .

and as ive said many times, i wasnt asking for criticism of price whatever, i was simply asking if anyone was interested.
fair enough if you think its a silly price BBA, your opinions, but please read above.

That water bill is ridiculous, but it's totally besides the point. Buyers don't care whether he's spent £100's on a tank (and let's face it, a lot of us do ) and justifying the over inflated asking price by saying he's got a baby on the way, just doesn't make any difference. That's like some advertising a car and saying "I've added an extra grand on as we're skint at the moment and could do with the extra cash".

I used to work for a motor insurance company on the modified car section, and it always made me laugh when I asked the value of the vehicle and they'd take a deep breath then start listing all the things they'd replaced and what they paid for them. "Well the alloys are worth £1,000 and the exhaust was £500, so that's an extra £1,500". Erm, no, it isn't. Sorry I digress!

Anyway, I know this isn't your tank, but I had to laugh when I saw the asking price and then read that it had damage, got a load of bunged up holes in the glass and a DIY job cabinet!!! He seriously needs to look at what people can buy brand new tanks for. He'd do better listing the equipment separately as well.

I was considering getting a 2nd hand 4ft tank, but was just not willing to pay the silly prices people expect for second hand tanks, I'd rather pay the extra £100 or so and get to choose what cabinet effect I want and what colour sillicone I want etc. Some idiot was selling a 4ft tank with a red tail cat fish, oscars etc in, and said on the listing it's the buyer's responsibility to empty the tank! I asked his reserve and it was £250 IMO he should be shot for keeping a red tail cat in his tank anyway, but that's another rant.

Good luck to them with the baby! Keep the tank and let baby watch it! I have a newborn and got 3 tanks already, 2 more coming Friday, and he loves watching the fish already.

as long as front glass is clean, it could be a nice project with 3d surrounds and lots of bog woods

I always thought water meters were cheaper than having a bill, Just a reccomendation to pass onto your friend to contact the water board, ask them to check the bill and ask for someone to see if theres any leaks coming from his property, it could be under the ground at a connection point, maybe someones hacked into his supply and stealing it, seriosly i would make more enquirys, all you have to do is mention to him, a good friend would apprichiate the advice given from a friend, all you have to do is show him this thread, at the end of the day most people who frequent these types of forums are going to be the best re search regarding price, for example when i buy i car i would ask my friend(mr mechanic to check it over and what he would pay for it, if its up too high,i listen to his advice take on board and make a informed choice, same goes for selling things, reseach market, how much things are selling for, not marked up as, cheap how much something like that would cost new and again make a informed choice, if this upsets you, then id advise do not post if you cant handle the replys, this is friendly advice,

Also as someone stated sell items individually, esp bogwood etc, leave a few odds like plastic plants,gravel and a few rocks to make tank appealing, but i think in all honestly i would not pay that,sorry to your friend, We had a member trying to sell a 8ft tank that was nice, couldnt sell even when price was dropped to around a hundred quid, you could be lucky finding someone whos not into the hobby bigstyle or just starting out, but the usual people to buy a second hand tank are usually enfusiastes
