Considering selling my 3 tanks in order to raise the funds for this.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250L-Cabinet-Aquarium-Fish-Tank-Tropical-Marine-100cm-3-3ft-T5-Lighting-New-/180856138200?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&var=&hash=item2a1bdda9d8

Anyone know if this tank is any good? I've never seen a filter system like this!

I have a top tray filter in my tank, it's very easy to access for maintenance and I've had no problems with it other than it gets in the way when I'm gravel vaccing. But I can move it if I really want to.

Its a rip off of the Aqua One wet/dry filtration.

I owned an Aqua One 620T for years and I would rate even Juwel filters over the wet dry system (and i dont even rate Juwel Filters!). Honestly... i ripped out the Aqua One filtration and put an external on it after so much grief.

Not the best flow, not powerful enough to suck half the dirt up from bottom of the tank right to the top of the filter... the tank got *really* hot with such tight lid and lighting so low oxygen etc

Last straw for me? The filter wool pad shifted in the flow when no one was home over night and it blocked the overflow and the water went straight along the filter and down the outside of the tank, accross the floor and onto th electrics on other side of the room. Melted 4 plugs and an extension lead into a black charred mess and left three tanks with no filtration or heating for 2 days. With discus and stingrays

Rant over :good:

I wouldn't recommend these tanks. There is a member on here that purchased one and left a review on it. He basically said the quality of the tank itself was ok but the stand in particular was shockingly bad. I wouldnt feel comfortable in using this as a main tank. It's true what they say, you get what you pay for. If I were you I would get a 2nd hand tank. You can get so much better than this tank for your money.

I bought a 2nd hand Juwel Rio 400 (5 foot 450 litres/125 gallon) for £200. It was 5 months old and the owner had the receipt of purchase. In with the £200 it also came with the original juwel stand, lid and fully working lights, a fluval fx5 external filter (£200 new) that was 4 months old, 2 300 watt heaters, sand, bogwood, some other bits and pieces like nets and a timer and he even delivered it all to me in with the same price :)

Tanks like juwels and fluvals are far far better than any "all pond solution" tanks.

Don't like it. It may be glass but it looks like acrylic. Also it's very deep compared to it's footprint, probably only any good for tall fish like angels or some such.

Still each to their own, mine is only an opinion amongst many. :good:

Now THAT must have been a man who thought it was a good idea at the time!

Not what I wanted to hear but truly grateful for the advice. I really don't fancy trying to balance 250lts on a shoddy unit even though it might not weight as much after the filter chucks all my water out. Thank you MBOU and dbanner you's have saved me alot of heartache.

Bet he's kicking himself now though lol

Im with DB on this, second hand all the way. I got my 5ft (420 litre .. I think!!) with a built In mahogony cabinet, hood, lighting (tho ive replaced the lighting unit now), three fluval 304 externals, 4 large pieces of bogwood, 5 heaters, several test kits and other stuff for £280 via flea bay. Just had to collect but was well worth it & is now my pride and joy in my living room!!! .

I disagree. I bought a similar tank for an amazing price on Ebay 3 years ago - far far cheaper than in the shops even with the delivery and ive never regretted it. It too came with the same filtration tray but I never used it as I bought an external filter. The stand looks a similar kind to mine and is more than adequate and mine is a 4ft 250L tank and is solid! Also from reading the spec on yours it is glass not acrylic.

Also if you check the feedback they have sold 56 since April with no bad feedback.I say do it! :good:

Why would you pay £299 on a cheaply made "all pond solution" tank that's 3.3 feet long but is quite high that's only going to be good for things like angel fish when you can buy a quality made Juwel Rio 240 for £304 brand new and with heating and internal filtration off seapets online with free delivery. It may be 10 litres less than the tank in question but the juwel is 4 feet long which would give you a wider choice of fish and the tank itself will be much better? Don't mean for this to sound harsh in anyway. Just a genuine thought...

Even so I would only go for the juwel 240 for this price if I was looking for a brand new tank, which I wouldn't do because like I said you can get far more for your money in the 2nd hand market. Only time I'm going to be buying brand new is when I get my 8ft x 2ft x 2ft (800 litre) in august (next month). Only reason being is because it's going to be custom made by ND Aquatics.

I have that in white! And this will pretty much sum it up; they import them from China. Build quality as a whole was pretty awful, especially the hood. I took out the hood filter and used my canister filter, assembly instructions were a joke for it, and pretty tacky. It's very good price wise, the tank and cabinet are good (the latter surprisingly still holding the tanks weight), but don't expect it to rival the quality of the more well known alternatives.

Had a look at the juwel on seapets and totally see your point about build quality, but thanks to the layout of my sitting room and the wifes goofy corner suite I don't have room for a 4 foot. I'm not going to bother with the one off ebay but it would have fitting perfectly to the space I have.

Corner suites. Waste of a seat IMHO, afterall who actually sits in the corner? And if they did no one could sit either side 'cos their knees would bash. Great in showhomes, not good in homes that need a decent-sized fishtank! :fish: :shout:

Ah well if that's the case then that's a real shame :(
