Oh My GOD I got an ALTUM!

sigh* You are right...... This is very stressful for me and I have gotten in trouble alot for being snapy with relitives and school mates... -_- I just need some time to get settled... I knew this was going to happen... I should have never told you guys about the angelfish.... I should never have gotten the angelfish... But I did so DEAL WITH IT!!! I am going to have this angelfish and he will be in a good tank!!! I am going to see if their is any place that makes deep aquarias!! I wish I could fit a 125 g in my room but I need a place for my bed!!!! And another 55-65 is more reasonable than a 125!!! I am giving way my prized pet I don't need the sass from people *cough mary cough cough*..........oh must be my allergies!

Ya. But maybe it would just be better to buy the second 65 Gal for you Ciara oscar, and forget about buying the Angel. I'd say you're all stressed out because you bought it on impulse. If you had known you were going to get this fish, you could have everything sorted out, and been ready for it.

Just a suggestion, but that's what i'd do for sure.

Altums may be rare and all (and declining at that) but a fish you've had since it was a fry sounds more Valuable to me than a $100 Angelfish.

I'd also go with the Oscar because The Altum, as you said, will be easier to care for in an Established tank, unless you're ready to do bi-weekly water changes.

couldn't I move one of my filters from my oscar's tank (my oscars have to filters) and put it in the angelfish's?? It is a aqua 500 and it is very established... Then I could put a bag of peat in it and away we go or would that not work?? I would think it would help with gettin it established!! I could put some of the water from my oscar tank into the angelfish's since they have the same ph.... or would that not help ether............ :( I don't know!!

I have 2 Angels, 1 marble (mainly black) and 1 silver (with a couple of black stripes) I dropped on really lucky, went to an LFS, and i didnt know they were closing down, so i got a great deal on them !!!

2 angels, 1 clown loach (they only had this one left, as someone had bought the rest), and 6 baby mollies all for £5 ;) hehe...

Then went to another lfs for a friend for my Clown Loach, and a single Clown Loach there cost me £6.99

Good luck with your new fish :*

Shut my trap ? who's being offensive here..not me i just quoted everything you said and I wouldnt get another fish if i didnt have room to keep it properly i d go out buy a new tank first and NEVER get rid ov a fish i loved so much. You have no reason to get mad as an ADULT i can take critasisum and use it wisely....i dont pretend to know everything or too much about fish but i know enuff for the fish i have and ideally a tank 75-80g is gud for an oscar.I have 4 tanks in my house and yes every tank is water changed properly and regularly and my arowana tank needs a great deal ov care and its ALWAYS in tip top shape ...with an expensive fish you cant take any chances...water is tested b4 and 24 hours after water changes which in arowana tank has to be twice a week! I have 5 kids to care for then come my pets and NONE of my pets are any less than priority so yea if you want to call me Miss Perfect ! lol another thing the way you talk for a 13 year old especially the language i think as well as stoppin impulse buying until you know you can afford to buy a new bigger tank if needed you should show a bit respect for your elders...i was always told speak to people how you wish them to speak to you Mary

:D well I found a great tank for my altum! :fun: And it is soooo cool!!! It is a six sided tank and is exactly 30" high!! Each of the six sides is 13 long and it is a 60 gallon! :hyper: weeeeee!!!! It is just around my price tooooooo!!!!!! Don't worry fishys you will be in a nice home soon!!

well everyone here says I should get four... I don't know!!! As many can fit in the hex tank without having problems. Would a koi angelfish fight with a altum??

claire

Not realy. They are, in fact, virtualy the same species (same requirements - with wild-caught fish anyway, very similar and often considered subspecies rather than completely different species). However, because altums are much more sensitive and wild-caught, you'd better not mix them as the koi angels may be carrying diseases to which they are resistant but the altums are not. If you were to get more than one scalare you'd also have aggression issues. Just stick to altums.

edit: to read like it should

oh ok........... -_- Does that hex tank sound toooo small to you??? I was just thinking of putting just two altums in the hex since less surface space!!

Hey Claire,

Take a chill pill! You are still in that good ole age of knowing more than is good for you. I understand your desire to do too much too soon. "Hire a teenager while they still know it all" You seem to have a good idea of what you want to do! The feel of getting this Altum is very nice, but please make sure you think about how the fish are going to be when full grown. I am not trying to stop you, but if you do not have a suitable home for him then you should think about what is best for him. I want you to succede with this and I am not an expert with Angels and I wish you the best of luck. Please do not get bent out of joint when the others give you advice that goes against your plans. You are going to be a great fish keeper :) Your passion is a good thing but do not let it get the best of you. I was thinking what it would be like to build a 2.5 meter long X 1 meter high and 75CM wide tank to have a few big monster fish in and Altums seem like a big time challange. You are going to have a lot of time to do things right, so take your time and do it right :) :) :)
