I would say going with a minimum size is a good way to get maximum problems. As well as unhappy fish. How long does it take for an altum to reach max size? You could start with the 60gal and then work like crazy to get a long deep tank. There is always the possibility of DYI maybe you can get the parents to help in building a custom tank that fits perfect in an unused corner or the what not. Good luck with the project Claire.

You may want to look into building a custom tank, as i think tanks over 2 feet may be rare, except for giant (over 200g) tanks.

Personally I would say that your "source" is about as reliable as a one legged man in a butt kicking competition. I.E: not very.

I wouldn't put much stock into anything this person said without looking into it properly yourself. If they endorse fish stunting then they probably believe in all manner of misinformation, malpractices and downright horrific fishkeeping techniques; if they work in your lfs then they shouldn't, simple as that.

Ha yea rite ! Not that much in love with ya oscar then cos it seems ur quick enuff to get rid, maybe a gud move considering ur keeping it in a 55g Defo just a teen blonde but not ur average, and also "who knows too much about fish" i dont think so !

I am not going to stunt my ALTUM!!!!! ok I was just asking gosh!!! And any way I am getting a tank JUST FOR THEM!!!! It will be at least 24" and all the other things you guys say they need like peat filtering and plants, rocks and driftwood galor! I am not a cruel selfish person if that is what you are suspecting me of being!! Just your avarage teen blonde who knows too much about fish! And right now I am as nippy as a tiger barb because of this problem with my oscars and tanks!!!
But really please I love my fish more than anything else and want to keep them happy and that is why I am giving up Ciara so that the tank that Montie is in now will be just right for him...... I love my oscars!!! I had them since they were weeeee babies!!!

P.S my boss runs a private fish bis. and I just asked him one day if I could join the crew and he said ok. I get paid every week and that is cool for me!

Can i just add that Peat Filtration is ALWAYS good, and R/O units are only necessariy/useful if you have a high Tap water PH.
