Oh I Wish I Had The Space!.. Galaxy Rasbora

Took a trip to my LFS today to look for more Serpae tetras for my community and pick up some ick medication to keep in the cupboard (just in case)....

I shouldn't have looked in the tanks....
In one of the bottom tanks... in a corner... I spotted them.
Galaxy rasboras...
They weren't labelled.
Only about 5 of them in the tank.
And were about 1/2 inch long.

I looked EVERYWHERE for these a year ago.... and there they were, right in front of me. I doubt they'll show up again, and at $5.00 each, they were a steal (they charge $4.00 for a molly here!), as I've seen them priced at $9.00 a piece in other stores.....

Could I keep a school of these with Female Bettas in a 15 gallon low-tech planted tank?

Well, if they're like zebra danios they may nip the females.

I keep a 37 gallon community aquarium and I have guppies with my females. The females are usually the ones who do the occasional nipping. It's not enough for me to separate them as they usually only strike my lyretail guppy (his flowy fins bring him trouble) Otherwise the females pester one another only and leave the other fish alone.

The problem here is not nipping the bettas, but more whether your rasboras will not be hassled by the bettas...

These are very peaceful fish like most rasboras and since they are small are more prone to being hassled/eaten.

i wouldnt worry about aggression as they are extremely peaceful fish. also would add virtually no bioload as they are TINY! and stay tiny. the only potential problem would be feeding. bettas are greedy eaters (As we all know) and getting galxies to eat is sometimes a bit of a challenge even on their own.
NICE find! and at an amazing price. around me they are $15 or more a pair. i always wanted to set up a nice little planted tank for some as they are so pretty! if you want to try, better get them soon. they always vanish from the store in a matter of days. ive yet to have a "second chance" to purchase them at any given time. thats how quickly they sell.

The manager working said that he'd seen them on the list and ordered in two dozen. He only had 10 or so there when I got there. He had no idea what they were or why they were so popular, particularly because they weren't labelled on the tank, and were so small that you had to get REALLY close to the tank to be able to see them (I almost didn't notice them because they were in with female guppies and a massive piece of driftwood). I get the feeling that his supplier doesn't know what they are either as their price is crazy cheap, and they're usually VERY overpriced on almost all their fish.

Would I have any issue of the Bettas assuming that these adorable little guys are food?. They'd have a good two months to grow a bit before I introduced Bettas (I can't set up the betta sorority til I'm at school, but the Galaxies could go into a 10 gallon I have set up at the moment for corys and otos). I'd just adjust what I was feeding to be exactly what the LFS is feeding them (Actually.. I think I'm already feeding the same flake as they do already).

I want them, badly enough that I'd be willing to buy another tank to get them (though that'd REALLY irk my parents!)... but if they'll fit into a sorority with Female bettas without getting eaten or nipped at, I'd love to keep them.

I had some in with male endlers and I never saw them. The tank was very well planted but they were extremely shy and very difficult to feed. I lost them all in a few months I would think with something boisterous like female bettas their shyness would be even worse. They're a species tank fish imo.
