It's always very evident when your company is flushing, because your water will be brownish or, at the very least, very cloudy and somewhat discolored. You can physically see the sediment in it. If I run my faucet and the water's not good enough to drink, I won't give it to my fish. Or the dogs. Or the cat. Or even my husband.[/quote]

I will have to agree with that! lol my partner acts as a 'tester' for anything :)

TETRA SAFE START ( FOR KICK STARTING NEW FILTERS) TETRA SAFE START ( FOR KICK STARTING NEW FILTERS)
Tetra SafeStart allows you to rapidly stock a new aquarium with fish. It contains a patented blend of the bacteria responsible for removing harmful ammonia and nitrite from aquarium water. These bacteria are not found in any other product, and work to instantly activate the filter. For setting up new filters or following filter maintenance, water quality problems, or water changes: Add 5ml of SafeStart per 6 litres of water.

Sure i'll have missed stuff or made mistakes.....
Anyone else feel free to cut and paste and upgrade whatever...
Don't buy the cycling product this is useless, only get refridgerated bacteria boosters like bactinettes/bio spira...

Yep, germ's right there and remember that because you only have a smaller tank (even his proper tank will most probably not be humungous (or however you spell it) you won't need to buy big ones of everything! :)

don't bother with the safe start, you need bactinettes (proper, live bacteria) if you want to help the filter along. Don't know if it's available online but they sell it at Maidenhead aquatics, is there one near you? Don't buy it unless it's been kept in the fridge as otherwise the bacteria will be long since dead. It's about £5 for one treatment but that's all you'll need for up to 100 litres.

I feed my betta betta flakes but one pot of pellets/flakes will be no more than £3 (remember what i said about not needing big ones of everything) and it will last you ages :)

Edited to say: missed germs edit about bactinettes, i was typing :)

Way to tired to understand this!
Can I but these and go to bed?

Tetra Aquasafe

At times it is necessary to add tap water to the aquarium, as part of a water change or a top-up. Tap water is designed for human use, and therefore contains high levels of chlorine to kill germs. In addition, it may contain varying levels of toxic heavy metals. Both chlorine and heavy metals are toxic to fish, and will cause them long-term damage and stress. Leaving water to stand will not remove all of these factors, and so is not an alternative to using a water conditioner. AquaSafe works by instantly neutralising these harmful substances, and should be used every time new water is added to the aquarium. In addition, AquaSafe also reduces stress, promotes wound healing and protects against infection, and adds a protective coating to the fish.

Interpet Aqualibrium

Aqualibrium is a unique balanced formulation of essential physiological salts for promoting the health of freshwater fish, safeguarding against disease and stabilising water conditions, including the essential pH value. It is one of the aquarists most versatile water treatments and can be used in a variety of ways: (1) As a general aquarium tonic and mild pH buffer, (2) To help minimise the effects of stress on fish, (3) As a supportive measure when treating disease. Aqualibrium can be used in conjunction with any other of the Interpet aquarium treatments. In many cases, a supportive does of Aqualibrium will enhance the effectiveness of aquarium treatments
