New Tanks Here

Yes but I don't think Eco Complete actually has bacteria in it!

Anyway some of those plants look non aquatic like some of the plants in my garden but I'm not really a specialist.

considering as the man said its aquatic plants i trust him, fishy business rocks and if there not ill return them. i got some new ones today from madenhead aquatics and they look nice

okay so over the past few days i havent been doing mutch to my tank, adding some water to refill what evaporated away and all that. but i niticed the water was going a brownish colour, it wasn't bad at all just a slight tint, anyway i added my carbon to the filter and its clearing it up nicely. now my little plants, the little devils have been causing me a bit of trouble, all floting back to the top  but that got sorted with a little weight and proper burying. but they looked a little depresed so i got some more and a new CO2 system, okay its not at-all high tec... yet :hyper: but i've already smashed my budget by about £400 :shout: , oh well, just the little CO2 system is causing me a bit of frustration untill recently, its a NUTRAFIN natural plant system and im using the stuff provided while it last then im ging to home made CO2. now back to the frustration, litttle hickup with the yeast, they gave me a dead set  but oh well there losing money from me now.

i know i've said this a thousand time's but ill get pics soon  untill then... well you'll just have to wait, and wait, and wait.....
C'ya, shang hi :good:

The brownish colour is probably tannis from the wood, it'll clear up pretty soon and is harmless. As for the nutrafin cannister, use the home brew recipe, the sachets that come with the kit are rubbish, I was the same thought yeah I'll use the satchets then change when it runs out, well after about 4 days I'd had all of 3 bubbles, when I did the home brew it started bubbling more or less straightaway. I did a fresh mix on thurs afternoon and today it's bubbling away nicely, haven't sat and counted but I'd say about 15 a minute.

Tanks looking good btw :good: I also agree with luke some of those plants look non aquatic but also like him I'm no specialist :p

1) Should of put eco-complete in first, you were right not to wash it first though as it DOES contain bacteria :good:

2) If you've added wood this could also contribute to the brown tint in your water, a few water changes down the line and you'll be sorted there :good:

3) Dont bother using yeast, or any other products for that matter that come with Co2 kits, just go out and buy some from a super market :)

Keep up the good work and journal :)

i was going to do the yeast for supermarket because its cheeper, i've done a 18l water change when i added the carbon to the filter, just emptyed the filter and refilled the tank.

Supermarket yeast and stuff is much more effective, I forgot how you do it but all you have to do is ask, for your size tank you could consider an extra nutrifin kit for the other side of the tank to keep it more stable.

I was going to get one of these but I'm going to see if my plants grow without one.

i already cheaked in my new tank and biOrb, you need to feed them so much in the biOrb but they never grow.
anyway in the big tank they have stayed the same hight (i measured them to cheak) and theres no Oxygen bubbles forming on the leaves. you can try though but a CO2 system would proberly make your plants happyer and more healthy.

okay now back to the journal.

November 9th
added carbon to the filter to remove the tannins that leached from my bogwood and its nice and clear again, CO2 failed again, as you can most likly see from the paragraph above that was aimed at lketendo. ill do a DIY CO2 System and if that fails im going to go buy a presurised system that i replace every 260 days for £15 (not bad, im thinking about it because i feel like smashing the current CO2 system. man that would be stress releaving).

ill udate later, with pics from my web cam

If you can afford it get the pressurized. If not DIY Yeast throw the sachets and buy another DIY kit.

Can't you take pics with your Sony Video Cam?

im sure the nutrafin co2 kit is only for 100l tanks? or was it 75?

and make sure you cycle it properly, not by adding food for 5 days then fish 2 days later ;)

lol, thats going on for about 4 weeks. its just add food for 5 days to reise levels then for 2 days don't add anyfood to let it rot and the filter to catch up, then im going to repeat it untill it can take 4ppm of ammonia down in less than 12 hours.

not back to jornal
November 11th, also knowen as rememberance day (i have my poppy)

got the CO2 system to work, fianily! afted using the canaster and using a DIY approach to the CO2. lots of bubbles "bubbly bubbly bubbly bubbly, yay"
waters clearing up with the carbon filter in, its almost clear again *jumps for joy*

well i spoke too soon.... yesterday my CO2 over-flowed into the tank  but all is well now after a 40l water change yester day and anotherr today. well its okay now.

ill update later, shang hi
