New Tank, New World.

What temperature do u have them at? Discus like warmer water like 28-32C (although a few people dont seem to have trouble keeping them in slightly lower temps.). They also prefer to be in groups, I would consider adding another 2-3 soon. As for adding a group of blue rams, I wouldn't consider that until another 6 months or so time.

Adding a shoal of rummynose or cardinal tetras (not neons) may help the discus to feel more secure.

Be careful adding catfish as many don't like the warmer temperatures.

How much did they set you back and were they a pair? Most discus I've seen usually sell for around ~150$ each.

edit: and if you buy more discus you should ask if you can see the fish eat first before buying.

I bought them as 2 singles from the same store. And they were 59 each (australian). They're currently in an acidic tank at about 6.2 with a temp of 28 degrees.
I will be getting some more when I find some locally that look good.

What would be a good type of shoaling tetra to keep with discus? Rummynose?

Bearing in mind discus are in fairly acidic water at a slightly higher temp.

The rummynose tetra also requires acidic water but they're not keen on temps beyond 26C: http://www.fishbase....ry.php?id=12365

I think you'd be best posting the question of "what dither with discus?" separately to get the attention of members who may have gone down this road before...trying to find fish that handle 28-30C comfortably all the time is hard...

edit: mind you found a post where cardinals are being added: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/325925-how-many-cardinals-in-my-discus-tank/page__hl__dither%20discus__fromsearch__1
Maybe rummynose tetras would be okay?

My DIY Co2 Distributor is up and running and have more plants arriving this week :good:

Careful with that CO2, you don't want crazy levels...

Are you following any guidelines on this? It's just you have delicate fish in the tank and I wouldn't want to see anything bad happen to them

Forgive me if you've read up on a million and one articles and have figured it out, just don't want to see anything go wrong :)

No cardinals or rummynoses locally this month so I just bought 13 neon tetra and 5 penguin tetra!

Do be careful with DIY CO2.Trying to restict the flow so that too much CO2 is not being dumped into the tank of an evening when plants are not using it can be dangerous (bottle could rupture). Also results in very high CO2 concentration if not properly controlled which in turn will/could ,have negative effect on the fish due to rapid Ph fluctuations.
Not a lot of plants appreciate the temps that Discus need. I would stick with lowlight plants were it me .Java fern which I see you have, anubia ,crypt, and perhaps vallisneria would work well without CO2 so long as you had at least 2to3 watts per gal of light.
Trust me,Discus do not appreciate sudden changes in water chemistry and forgive me if this has already been considered. I too would hate to see you have troubles with these beautiful fish.

The angels keep to themselves! :good:

It's a shame because the red discus is really bullying the new yellow one, I'm starting to get worried as it hasn't eased off after 24 hours!

Lovely fish you have in there!
give it another couple of days for everyone to settle in

Maybe add/move plants/decor in the tank or take the red discus out of the tank for a couple of hours then put it back to "restart" the behaviour...this is why planted tanks with cichids isn't always the easiest combination of things, not if you want to scape the tank and keep it that way anyway
