New Tank, New World.

I am actually liking the look of some of the Apistogramma Trifasciata images I have found I might go with them now!

All I need to do is work out the large gentle Cichlid for the tank. Still might be the Green Severum but it might get a tad large?

as already pointed out, u can replace the cockatoo apistos with any other apistos or bolivian rams

as for the larger cichlid you could try some festivum cichlids

As already mentioned you can get away with one in the tank...makes a very nice centre piece fish!

I personally think your stocking list with the alternative Apisto is really nice, although I would check your pH from the tap and see what your "default" water conditions are. From what I have read all Apistogramma types do ideally want a pH on the low side (< 6.5)...not sure if any members here keep Apistos in pH 7-7.5 i.e. Alkaline water?

Oh and I am not sure whether people are labelling thier Apistogramma Trifasciata wrong but I have seen both yellow, blue and a mix of the 2 colour variations. If you are having 4, get 3 females and 1 male...

New shot of tank added.

I just saw a Blue Turquoise Discus at the LPS for 40 bucks! Usually they're like 100 bucks I am so tempted!!

But everyone's been saying about how blue rams are softies!

I'm not sure about this discus, I might just bite the bullet and get it I think!

At least it's South American and that's what I'm planning on stocking the tank as.

I just bought a couple of discus, will add pics shortly. They're lovely!

They look good. You'd probably want to build your stocking around them now though, as opposed to still aiming for what's mentioned in your first post.

Yes I'm looking at making a somewhat discus only tank. I have fallen in love with this breed!

Have you tried feeding them yet? And what foods do you have for them?

Congrats, they are beautiful! Nice that you have 2 distinctly different colourations too!

The only reason I said Blue rams is that your tank setup for Discus should match Blue rams requirements, i.e. high temp and low(ish) pH. Blue rams can be softies and rather fragile, but I think if they go into a tank with spot on parameters you'll have a much easier time. I've seen a fair few tanks over the past months with both species in them...it's a nice contrast IMO

Good luck and post regular updates :)

Not yet, I hear it's not good to feed fish the day you've acclimatised them to a new tank.

I have a bunch of bloodworms and I also have another mix called Complete Cichlid which is supposed to have all the required nutrients that also helps bring out their colours!

Thanks! My fiance chose the red one! haha. Thanks for your input too I actually loved the blue rams and am seriously thinking about getting a batch but it's unfortunate I can't find them locally and will have to order them in. I'm always a little 'thingy' about ordering fish I can't see.

Glad you like my discus! They're currently both sulking together in the same corner since I put them in about 8 hours ago. Hopefully they cheer up and come out and play!

It seems the photo in post 24 has stopped working, is it the same for you? Such a nice pic too...
