New Tank For My Betta

I'm looking for a new tank for my betta, having gone against the fluval egde I was considering a short while ago. I've thought about going custom, but I am yet to find anywhere that can make me a tank to my specifications. So, anyone got any ideas for tanks?

Just the betta and nothing else? Anything around 30l, with room at the top for air for him to breathe (hence why the Edge is not too good).

I had mine in a 35 litre fluval elite style tank, with an elite mini filter and 25 w heater. Id had all of these things years, didn't buy them specially.

When he got older he went in a lifespace 16 litre cube.

Are you still wanting an all in one branded kit? You could do it so much cheaper and create the perfect setup by buying individual things. Often the filter that comes in kits is too strong anyway. The best tank I had for a betta was a 9ish gal Clearseal hex, with the elite mini filter and small heater, and clip on arcadia light.

No, I'm not fussed about buying an all in one branded kit, I'm perfectly happy with buying things individually, which is what I'd be doing if I went custom anyway.

Yep, it's just him in there, though I aim to risk a couple of shrimp and/or a small snail (possibly ramshorn, nerite or even an assasin snail, but I'm not sure about the latter atm, as I haven't really checked up on it yet)once I get it all set up.

You'll want larger shrimp (amano or similar). My betta assumed the cherry shrimp were food, so I had to swap them into the other tank, and bring the amanos into his tank. I have a single assassin snail in my betta's tank, who he ignores.

I was actually thinking of trying cherries, but maybe not

This says it's a marine tank, but would it work for freshwater also? There's no protien skimmers or anything that I thought you needed for a marine tank......

You don't know how strong the current from the filter will be. Having both lights on might be a little too much as bettas don't like really bright lighting. I also think that's quite expensive, myself.

But it's up to you what kind of tank you're after.

Im getting an aqua start 320 tomorrow, its 6 gal and I'm picking one up from the lfs for £46, you can get it for £45 online. You would need to get a heater too. No idea what the filter is like on it because I obviously dont have it yet, but I can see myself replacing it anyway as its for my 2 frogs. I am planning to add a Betta with them eventually and have been told this tank size will be fine for that. Its a really nice looking little tank, I only spotted it a week ago after looking all over the net for weeks.

You can go to walmart and get a 10 gallon tank for 30 dollars and baffle the filter and this would be perfect for a Betta

Almost any glazier should be able to make a tank to the size/ specs that you where wanting, its a fiddly job and they may charge you a premium for doing this for you. Or you could buy the glass yourself cut to what you want and glue it together yourself. Also some pet shops make their own tanks (well they do where I live) so such a pet shop could make the tank you desired, again at a cost.

Failing all of that I have an 18-20L tank by that came as a set for $20 from a cheap outlet shop with a small net, cheap food (threw that out) some water conditioner, 1 fake plant, and a small filter. All I did was get a small hob filter and small eater for the tank, added the coloured gravel I wanted and got a small light. My male fighter is living quite happiily in this tank with his live plants, ornament and large fake leaf that hangs over the side and rests on the water surface.


And my male fighter ate my cherry shrimp he found them great entertainment hunting and stalking them. If you do add shrimp make sure they are large enough to not get eaten by the fighter, but also ensure that they aren't going to nip at your fighters fins. Some shrimp can be down right aggressive.

maybe amanos and ghost shrimp would be compatible with betta fish i am considering adding them with my betta right now

Don't think there's anywhere round me that does this, but advice taken on the shrimp! I think I'd do ghosts or amanos after hearing so many tales of cherry shrimp becoming food How exactly do you make your own? What glue do you use?

I, of course, wouldn't have anywhere near as much sand, though I would probably go for a similar setup with the java fern. I badly wanted to get a tank nearer 20L+, but would this do if I was really struggling? I'm just thinking it would be too small : /
