New Tank - Bright (preferably Pink) Tropical Fish List Needed

welcome to my world...pink, light lilac, pinky peach....I always thought nippers in pink was evidence of pushy parents. NOT ONE BIT! as soon as my little one was asked to choose (around 2ish) it was pink every time. denim caused screams.

"apparently" girls grow out of it at 10.

until I get my Goth when the rebellion starts, i will have a bright, pink colourful tank in the living room, and love it.

...I wonder what fish girlie Goths go for?

hopefully not predators

easy enough to do a goth tank, plenty of black fish out there!!!

yeah, get a pair of black angel fish in a very simply decorted tank would make an ace goth tank,it would look sick :hyper:
damn i wish i discovered fishkeeping a few years earlier,i would def have go for that!!!

i had problems trying to make a nu rave tank a few months back, was tricky esp since glo-danio's are illegal in the uk,it would have been awesome
mine is now semi nu rave but sadly didnt have a big enough tank to do it properly (next time however...)

anyways dude if u want bright fish...i recomend Endlers
they are like guppies but only an inch long (so you can have loads of them)
i think they are available in pink but when your daughter see;'s all the other options she will go mental
most of them are orange blue and black but mine are yellow silver and black

the best thing you can do is take your daughter to a few fish places and see which fish get her excited, she says she wants pink but when she see's whats on offer everything changes lol she will want almost every fish she see's (well i do at least...but then again i'm not your daughter  )

oh yeah i jus remembered,if you can fit them in your tank, try and get 3 pim pictus's THEY ARE THE COOLEST CATFISH EVER!!!

its not much to worry about, these days the kids become emo now instead,so they will prob want anything bright colourfull and stripy.
the ultimate emo fish...bleeding heart tetra,i was so tempted my them, they're like uber emo

Out with the emo's/goth/etc etc- in with the cheesy boybands! Went to see Boyzone last week......Ahhh...Anyway, soz wandering off the topic!

Time to resurrect the thread.....

Tank now cycled, and tested the loading by buying some fish from LFS but Cardinals @ £7.99 a pair, got 4 of them, 6 glo-light tetra's and 1 pink loach thingy.

The ammonia, nitrite and pH didn't flinch for the following 5 days and so have confidence in the bacteria ability.

I am now looking at tri-mar to complete the pink theme, but want to keep the peaceful co-existance of the community tank. Was going to try Discus, but got afraid after reading up - maybe next time :)

current:
4 Cardinal Tetra's
6 glo-light tetra's
6 zebra danios

pink things to add?
Centre Piece: apistrogramma agassizi double red - nice, but how many? 4/6??? or boesmani rainbow (or both??) colour AND peacefull is the order of the day :)
another 8 cardinals to boost the shoal (although the glo-light are already running with their brighter bretheren ;-)
8 cherry shrimps - clean up crew with the loach thingy

dropped the parrot idea due to thuggery comments.

so i've estimated that i will have about 24" of tetra's & danios, leaving the rams/boesmani and shrimps the remaining 30 gallons before i'm overstocked.

that sound about right?

advice always welcome (see I AM learning - I'm asking BEFORE buying them this time:) _

Simon

Sounds like you're still in the pink over there Simon

Wish I had something constructive to shine on the red spectrum but you're catching a lot of members either on holiday or mucking with their bags (come to think of it, I -have- seen pink naugherhide on the baggage belts now, haven't I?)

Stocking questions on the larger specimens might also catch more member eyes in the trop discussion or specific species groups, was just thinking. Anyway, my only comment is that you can't go wrong with nice big shoals of neons/cardinals! (but you knew that.)

Had you thought of platys? Bright red platys are quite commonly available, but you can also get interesting brightly coloured variations including pink-ish shades (usually called white, but they are generally pale pink). Even better, some have Mickey Mouse's head on their tails.

There's a picture here:

They're very easy to look after, adaptable, and peaceful. The potential risk is that they are livebearers and can end up having loads of babies, most or all of which well be eaten by the other fish (including their parents) if you leave them in the tank. But it's easy to distinguish male from female, so you can avoid the problem if necessary.

I'd also speak in favour of corys - albinos have pink eyes. They're entertaining to watch, and very cute, peaceful, and the albino 'bronze' corys are easy and adaptable (some cory species need more specific conditions). They're happiest in groups.

With us, the pink/Barbie thing vanished overnight around the age of 7. At 10, pink is now acceptable again, but only if very bright and twinned with skulls, pirate emblems, etc. and lots of black...

Good luck! :good:

Serpea Tetras. They are light pink bodied, with red black and white fins. Very pretty and very girly looking.

Is your wanting to cycle with fish look into some hardy tetras (not neons)

Then for stocking i would advise not dwarf gourami.

Ever since i got mine he is a pain in the a55!

costantly trying to fight. i got him a female and he fought with her. bad fish IMO. but honey gourami are great.

Corys are nice and a good fish. althought some can be a little sensative,

Look into livebearers and the smaller cichlids. apisto's, firemouths (6" but very nice fish) etc

hello again simon, you know just yesterday i was wondering how you got on, had in mind to drop you a pm if you didn't pop up again soon.

now fish choices, how set are you on peaceful? the apisto's may be out because i would not describle them as such. now don't worry they're not gonna tear the tank apart of bully the tetras or peaceful fish, but you will see sparring between the males and if they decide to spawn (fairly likely, can be triggered by a big water change giving a drop in temp if you ever want to try it!) they will chase other fish away from that area of the tank. not bullies, but not peaceful either.

praecox rainbows have a nice pinky sheen to them which i think is very attractive

likewise for congo tetras

(at this point I know WD is laughing at my suggestions, i can find a reason to work apistos, congo's and praecox's into just about any set up you like!! def some of my favourite fish)

you could go for a female cambodian siamese fighting fish (betta splendens)

they're that kind of albino pinky shade that a lot of albino varieties get.

i'd second the suggestion for albino cories as well.

i'm sure you can find a guppy or endler variety with a lot of pink/purple/red on them which would be cute as well

Oh yes I'm laughing, you betcha... You can't resist, you've been out there thinking up PINK homework ever since Simon showed up. Every time you walk into a LFS now, you can't help but notice any pink fish.

Unfortunately I think it was Dan81192 who resurrected this thread (possibly not knowing that Simon had done a wonderful job fishless cycling ages ago if I recall) and not Simon himself. You see Simon is lost somewhere in London no doubt, sitting on a pink velveteen bench just outside the changing rooms waiting for hours while the rest of his family tries on dresses. He's wondering how much his nitrates will go up since he didn't have time to do a water change this past weekend, poor bloke.

oh man you're right, i'm too busy at work at the moment, not looking at threads properly.
