I agree entirely, I though you were just going to move up the size ladder, but i think going to the pond will be great. And only £500 for the whole thing, thats a bargain!!! Just the space I surrpose.......
Will be great to see, when its done :good:

EDIT: FOrgot to add about the orbys. Thats really bad, were they just too small do you think? Hopefully the remaining one will be ok with the motoros one day...

shame about the little orby :(
how big is the female motoro that attacked it?
my rays are starting to bite eachother its very worrying,no chunks out of their discs just round teeth marks.

Have you decided how you want to filter that pond yet CFC?

Could be worth trying a large tube filled with sand that water flows through to try and create anoxic zones to aid in controlling nitrates. I'm sure nmonks (or someone else) commented it had been done before as a proof of concept, could be fun trying it out on a larger scale, maybe have the water drip fom the tower into the pond in a waterfall to re-oxygenate the water.

Hell, I reckon you could go for a huge wet dry (have it go through some filterfloss, then alfagrog and then bioballs) before the sand unit and fall into the water at1.5-2x the volume per hour.

Throw in a Tunze to keep the water in the pond moving nicely (at a low electric cost) and you should be well away.

I was going to keep the filtration nice and simple, just a big box type pond filter rated for an external coldwater pond of 3 times the size of my pond and a pump rated for the same, large wet dry filters and towers are just going to take up valuable tank space in the fish house not to mention pushing the price of the ponds build cost up, ive only got about £1800 to play with for the whole project of getting the fishhouse up and going and the pond built, and a large chunk of that will be taken up by the insulation boards.

The big motoro that attacked the orbygini is about 18-20 wide, i was in the fish room doing water changes when it happened and it wasnt a pretty sight, she suddenly covered the little orbygini and started shaking her mouth from side to side in an aggressive feeding manner, as soon as i realised what was happening i chased her off with a net but she had already completely removed a large 3-4" chunk from the rear of the orbys disc, it wasnt just aggression she was actually trying to eat the smaller ray.

I'll probably get another couple of orbys to go with my remaining one and keep them in one of the tanks, the motoros are going in the pond as they are too aggressive to keep with other rays and i want to try and get some other species once i have a few more tanks up and running.

wow CFC, that's a beauty of an aro... I'm glad you're finally gonna build the pond...

PS: chat isn't working for me :/... I can't annoy you there :p...

PPS: I'm back >.>...
