The pictures are of adult tiger oscars yes? This thread has a pic of a juvenile tigar oscar, correct? Now, can you see no difference in markings? The markings this oscar has, will change.

If you call them stretching with their size changing, then yes. But then so will any fishes if you look at it that way. :S

The way you said it you suggested it wouldn't be a tiger oscar when it grew up or wouldn't resemble one. Some people have posted recently to say their markings fade. It's not true. That's all. :good:

Tetraman - do you have any pics to show what you mean - as I've got no idea what you're thinking of

And no, to the person who asked (sorry forgot to check usernames) he wont go black. He will be black, green and red, like all tiger oscars are. ;)

The only time I've seen faded manky looking oscars is when they're in poor condition - probably due to poor diet, care, illness, stress or tank size. If you look after him well, keep the water clean, give him a good diet, he should be just as pretty as the links I posted ;)

I didn't see any great fading in the pictures I found online, but I can definitely see it in the old oscars in my LFS, and you can see the color leaving these fish.

I never said it wouldn't be a tiger oscar as an adult, it will loose the markings it has now though.

i'm not certain, but i believe that those are all "wild-type" oscars and aren't "red tigers". but i could be wrong.

of course, i also don't think that they look very faded

Tetraman, I meant of the same fish growing up, to prove how it's lost it's markings as it aged.

Course oscars in LFS are going to look faded, they're usually in tanks way too small for them, and are probably stressed from people peering in at them all day and dodgy tank mates. You've got to admit, your average (not all, but average) LFS leaves a lot to desire care wise.

I dont disagree that their markings "stretch" out, but there's plenty of pics of bright beautiful adult oscars out there - that would suggest that in most cases, with proper care and diet, they will keep their lovely colours. I never said that there wouldn't be some that might fade, just that it wasn't the norm - and not like Jayjay suggested - that all tigers markings went.

I've seen some pretty faded oscar pics, but they usually also show murky tank water, overcrowding and even the odd pic with hole in the head.

Our red oscar got brighter as he aged, and we were assured on the oscar boards this is the norm with good care ;)

Ps. The pic in the original post is probably washed out by the flash, or if not - the red is yet to brighten. If it were a wild type, it would have more black and green and less, if any, lighter/red markings.

lol i dont know how it goes from *new oscar, what type is it?* to *it will lose all of its markings as it ages*

lets stick to the topic

your oscar looks exactly like mine, no orange it is sort of a goldish/brown right?

Yes, wow I think you got his twin brother.

LOL, at least the topic is staying alive I guess. :p

Have you seen any pics of a full grown yellow/goldish color Oscar?
