New Huge Tank!

Bit of progress to tell.

I received the bigger drill bits just before new year. I've been busy for the past week (hehe!) so only just got round to drilling the tank today. All has gone well, due to over heating when first starting the hole there's a tiny crack in the top layer of glass of the base, but this is the thinner sheet so won't cause any problems and the cracks into the weir area so wont have too much pressure on it.

Next step is replacing the poly tiles under it for thicker ones to give me a bit more space to play with to get the bigger pipework in. Once I have the new poly tiles in I'll paint the backing, then sort out the return pipework whilst it's pulled away from the wall.

So some pics, you can see the crack coming from the hole on the right of the hole

Very Cool - Sir Puddles will love this

Another boring update but progress none the less!

I lifted the tank with my brother the other night to replace the poly tiles with some 2" thick sheets, not because the old stuff was too thin, but to gain some extra space for the pipework under the tank.

So then it looked like this..

So with it sitting solid once again I cracked open the paint and painted the back, had to do it in 2 goes and with 2 different shades of blue, as I ran out and BnQ didn't make the stuff I had used before any more

More updates next week as the pipe works due and I have no job so plenty of time to get the pipe work sorted.

That really is a rather ugly looking fish in a cute and rubber coated cuddly way lol

Same thing happend to my 270gal when the tank was drilled the top layer cracked, its only in the weir section and looks very similer to the crack on yours, hower I was advised to stick another sheet over it to relieve the pressure.

My beardies had a 4x2x2, but I sold them quite a few years ago now, I just like the pic!

I'm not too worried about the crack, looking at your topic yours looked quite a big one(?). But my crack doesn't even touch the surface of the glass so all the silicon between the sheets around the hole should hold it tight, plus it will be under the bulkheads gasket.

Thanks for your concern though.

Yep will just be electric eels in there... just Puddle to start with.

The electric catfish will be in another tank.

Yay more updates!

I put the bulk head in place and built the stand pipe although nothing here is glued yet.

But later tonight I cut and glued all the return pipework. There's just the 2 bits of pipe sticking through the stand, flexi pipe will go directly over this tube.
