Hi all, I bought this new Gourami on Friday:

He/she was sold to me as a Honey but on looking at it in my own tank I'm not sure. He/she is very big for a Honey I think, the colouring IMO is not as red as Honey's I've had in the past and he/she seems very confident for a Honey which is a breed I've always found to be very shy. What do you think? Is it a Honey or do I have myself an Orange Thicklipped (or indeed something else)?

Also, does anyone know what sex it is?

Sorry, I know pic isn't great

Anyone? Even just the sex would be helpful (I am a loser that has to name all the fish that I can).

From the pic it looks like a coloful male Honey to me. Supposedly the Honey G's get to be up to 3 inches long, how long is the Gourami?

hehe I can't help you. But I always feel like a loser on here. We should make a club! {my list is only gone from my signature because I was depressed about sick fish.}

Looks like a honey to me!

 I always name my fish too but I didn't know that made me a loser hahaha :)

I also name my fish  I only name the individuals since naming the schooling fish is nearly impossible. My Pearl pair are named King Leeri & Sadie, and my Opaline is well, Opaline. How original

Same. My Mickey mouse platys name is Mickey

My hubby named my Platy's "Eenie, Meanie, Miney, And, Mo" There were five of them. Now there are three and my hubby insists that one of them was "And" so it is Meanie, And, and Mo. I get to buy the fish, he gets to name them! lol

Lol thanks guys, male honey is it then. I think he's about 2.5 inches but I guess it could just be that he's a bit older than the usually are when you get them.

and yes lol I always feel like the real experts on here think those of us who name our fish are a bit sad. I always do though, except for the shoaling ones coz you can't tell the difference between them.

Bums, the names I was thinking were girl's names. *back to drawing board*

Oh and btw, my remaining Platy (red wag) is called Zippy (because I got him the same week that the voic of Zippy died) and my GBR is called Pickle, because that's what I found I was always calling her anywy lol.

Yes but it's much more fun when you name them all :)

ye thats a red honey gourami and its probly just older then the curretn ones that you have as they can get to around 3 inches or mkore as ther tank that they matured in could of been big and it looks from the pick to be a female but a better pick would be needed XD

Hey, I was wondering how you think it's a female? I have 2 Golden Honey G's and I think one is a male & the other is a female but it's much harder to tell with Honeys than it is with Three Spot or Pearls..........

Oh, and here's a larger pic of the same Honey the TS posted:
