Im officially (well I will be when they grow) very overstocked

I was only going for 1, but they were so cheap, I thought get 3, then the guy said, if you get two more, I will only charge you for 4 - so I did :fun:

They are weeny right now, range from 1.25" - 2", settled in lovely.

No in the rio 400. Geophagus do like to be in groups, however, this species is ok on their own and can get quite aggressive within the group as they grow.

Birchirs licking his lips there, I am sure they would be safer with me till they grow up

I am suprised you didnt go more Daemons though, they are very nice.

lol and I thought I was getting overstocked :p

We know you can handle it though :) They look fantastic! Nice and gold, you sometimes see them looking a bit dirty now and again

The Daemons wouldnt be able to handle the aggression levels the tank might get to, Im hoping these will.

@ Wills, I can always find room for another tank :hyper:

@ Liam, I have one, that I rehomed when I was changing over to the tank to a Frontosa set up, but as that didnt work out, Ive been restocking since, so now I have 5 of them in with a Vieja, Texas, Severum, Bichirs + others.

Look like the common Geophagus brasiliensis aka Pearl Eartheater. My rescue as you know is a G. brasiliensis but the red kind Bahia red there are many fish in the group of geo brasiliensis all look so much a like but have slightly differant colors depending on were they are from much like how the Heros are.

Yeah you are over stocked no way you could keep all of them once they are 10". Mine is 4" and can be a brat at times pushing poor nip the severum around. For the most part they play nice. These guys are cool because they are laid back but yet can hold their own with some bullies.

They will spawn at 2 -3" so watch out. IMO they should change the name they are not like any other Geo.

Cute fish. I love getting new fish. I have some heading my way this week.

i had the brasiliensis, which are very similar, just without the red base colour to the fins in these, mine were fine when they was smaller but once they got to about 4-5" they tried to batter everything!
they are meant to get even more aggressive once they pair off, and they have hundreds of fry. i suppose if you have them with other fish that can stick up for them selves it might work out ok!
they are gorgeous though and if it wasn't for their aggression mine would never have gone.
they look very impressive full grown!
