New Aquarium Help Please

Hi everyone!

After some pointers on buying a new tank, want it for my hubby's birthday next thursday (last minute just came into some cash so can afford one!)

Currently he has a 2ft tank, bought in a hurry after I managed to smash his 3ft when we moved house.

I've got about £150 to spend, so will I be looking at 2nd hand only? would like to be at 3ft + for him although we do have room for bigger and pump/filter etc we have is man enough for a 200l

Any pointers, online store suggestions etc greatly appreciated!

I'd have a look on ebay/gumtree etc, you should be able to get a 3ft tank for £150, including cabinet and lights. You may even find it comes with filter etc.

I don't think you'll get a brand new tank/cabinet/lights etc for £150 unfortunately, so 2nd hand will be your best bet

Definately go on Ebay and gumtree, also try your local LFS as sometimes they have taken in good condition second hand tanks. It varies from area to area but second hand wise I got my 5ft for £220 with stuff and 120 litre for £70 with stuff oh and 3ft for £130 with stuff. But it depends how quickly you want it and what is going in your current area, best of luck!!! On Ebay ensure to narrow the search within parameters of how far you are willing to travel x

is it going to be a surprise? if so i would scrap that idea and talk to him about it and try and get as large a tank as u can (u said u had space for more than a 3ft tank in ur post)

It has to be a surprise! he's not expecting anything at all for his birthday from me (we've been having it tough financialy)
but my horse has just sold so I fancy treating him, he'll be over the moon and from mooching in the fish shops I know he's easily
pleased lol its the contents of the tank thats important to him not so much how the tank looks externally (although I'm not going to
have something grotty sat in the living room obviously!)

any suggestions on tanks to look out for? ta folks scouring preloved and stuff4sale now, not much close to lincoln on ebay at the moment

For £150, if you have time, you should be able to buy pretty much any size tank betweem 3' and 5' through AC or EBay. Bigger always better, so I would look for a Juwel Rio 400 or something similar. TBH, second hand tanks sell for proper random amounts, but view it before you buy it is always recommended.

Ebay is fantastic- I've just won a Juwel Rio 180 (which is just under 3 foot) complete with stand, all equipment and an external filter for £102.1
There are loads of great deals on there at the moment

I won a 5x5x2 home-made tank and stand and Fluval U4 filter on Ebay last weekend for a whopping £51!

I paid that much last Friday for 4 Barilius canarensis; 3 Barilius bakeri; 3 Steatocranus casuarius!

I got a My rio 400 for just over that on ebay, if you can take you're time you should be able to get something pretty decent

i got a juwel rio 400 for £150 and i got my aqua one 980 for £149. i would on;y buy brand new tank if it was custom.

Thank folks, only really got 5 days to find something!
I'm waiting on pics of one I've spied in the free ads an Eheim Karat 100 200l with stand, lights and internal filter for £150

I'll go hunting on the ones you've all mentioned though

it would.... if we didnt already have enough in the smaller tank! although its nice now to know the 3 day water changes can stop
the rekord is up and running, just needs more plants and its done, got him £25 of vouchers for maidenhead aquatics so that should sort the finishing touches (and I still have change from that £150!)
