New Apistogramma Pair Arrive

Out of curiosity, where did they come from? I had a pair that were laying eggs but the male became super aggressive and killed the female, and anything else that come near him that isn't a tetra. However, new tank, more room, more attempts are now possible.

I got them from eBay for £9.99 a pair + £8.99 postage ( which is very cheap postage as its normally a lot more for fish). I searched Apistogramma and they were in the list. Came from a seller in Glasgow and they had more than one pair available. My local fish shop were wanting £45 for 3 fish so these were a bargain. They were sent the day after I purchased them via royal mail next day (before 1pm) . They were expertly packed with 1 fish in each bag ( 2 bags in total)

Yep, still there

The male is super relaxed at the moment and isn't hanging around the female much. She is very calm with him if he swims near her.

Congrats mate! I wanted to get some Hongsloi to breed but my parents aren't fussed with it, so I said I'll make the water soft and acidic to "create a biotope" even though I have gouramis, and anubias but I'm hoping they won't notice :hey:

Thanks and Good luck. Hopefully we can get some little swimmers. I used to have guppies that were always having babies but these thr first eggs to be laid in any of my tanks . I'm very excited about it as these are very beautiful fish. I've done about a 60% water change and she seemed ok with it.

i was told to do small and often water changes i.e. 15-20% daily from the top only if the female feels threaten in any way she'll eat em. The male has nothing to do with the fry/eggs that was my experience with the ap. pebas i had, infact he used to hide at the opposite end of the tank lol!
get some baby brine shrimp ready or somat for wen they're free swimming

Ah heck...my Gouramis bred...wrong fish...

Well She seems to have moved the eggs from the underside of the stone to on the sand underneath her. I initially thought she had eaten them but she's still guarding them like a demon and I saw them underneath her. It's too dark in there to get a good look. Maybe they have hatched and I was being dumb lol

She had 4 little swimmers but they have gone now. She was harassing the male to breed again yesterday and now she has new eggs in a coconut cave that she's guarding

Guess I was wrong again. She has babies in the cave. She had them out for a few minutes then put them all back in the cave lol

I've given them some liqufry but she's going to have a job on as they keep trying to escape lol

Brilliant news.

I have found JBL nobil fluid Artemia to be better than liquifry in the past for freshly hatched fry.

Mama and her babies I think she has about 20 in total

The tank is scuzzy again do going to do another change. 2 big ones a week it looks like but I'm wary of upsetting the tank

I would do smaller ones every day instead. Say 15-20%. Less of a change that way and more consistency.

Looks very cute though :)
