I could kick myself, i did a waterchange the other day and temp dropped from 25c to 10c maybe even lower, didnt realise water was so cold,,,,my two silver sharks went crazy and darted round and round tank trying to burry themselves in gravel then both floated to the top,,i grabbed them out and stuck them in my 3ft held them or 10mins and they finally came round,,,next day one died and one is now fine,,,a couple of days lapsed, the oscars were very lafargic, and finally yesterday gadulf the 11inch<meausured>died yesterday morning :-( Iam sooooo annoyed with myself,,,,Took water to modaz's shop for a water test only to find id managed to put my tank into a cycle, so yesterday afternoon was pent getting mature media from my other tanks and seeding he filters again, so fingers crossed please guys :(

so iam guessing that this sudden temp change was tohe cause?
droping a big temp like that killed the benifical bacteria within the filter?

mate thats terrible sorry for your loss. not sure about the drop in temp being responsible altho think the bacteria are better off with warm water. so whats your plans now for the tank? are you gonna get another oscar?

Sorry to hear that.

How much water did you chage? Must have been a large amount for such a temperature drop.

Oh no nelly, thats awful, sorry to hear bout Gandalf (RIP).

The temp could have caused some bacteria to die back, but not enough to cause a major re-cycle, did you dechlor when you re-filled, I dont understand how adding even 40% new cold water would drop the temp that much, but I guess if the water direct from the tap is that cold it could. Dont you normally use buckets or have you switched now?

Re-seeding should work ok, with some extra warm water changes hopefully the others will be ok.

Fingers crossed for ya, let us know how you get on :)

that perticular day i overdid it,,,its a 566litre tank and i removed 350litres,,,,i was hatting with some one a didnt pay attention, yes i always dechlor water first, i jst took straight from tap<which was a frezing cold early evening,,,butassaid wast paying attention<to busy gossiping
ive always done the same routine since ive had tank,,nearly 3years............
done nothing different except a bigger change, never added hot water before but should be ok as we have a combi boiler and its never kept in a tank,,,,,
This is the only reason we can think off

ive got a combi boiler too and i change roughly 200 litres of water at a time i always use the hot tap to match the temp of water added to that of the tank as close as poss and i ahve never had any problems doing that because as you rightly said ts not stored in the tank.

thats good to hear mate. are you planning on getting another oscar to keep ascar company?
