Baffled Newbie -not sure what to so with this hardware (or even what it is???)

Bought a Jewel Rekord 90 2nd hand. Came with a Pump 400GB, whatever that is!!!
The tank has a rigid sort of black plastic box running full height at one end but there i snothing in it.
Is this 400GB a filter?
If yes how do I connect it? It came with a plasctic elbow pipe and some plastic balls, no idea what they are or even if they are part of the pump
If pump cannot be used as filter, what sort of filter doI need..and what is the pump for?

the black box in the tank is the housing for the filter/pump and the balls will be the media for the bacteria to grow on at a guess.... i dont have an internal filter so sorry cant help you anymore!

The pump attaches to the filter and should draw the water through the filter then run back out of the top of the filter. The plastic balls sound like bio media which simply sit at the bottom of the long back box (filter) which you described. You will need to buy some filter sponges and floss from your lfs, they can advise you on the sizes of sponges needed for the juwel 90.

These sponges sit on top of the bio media with a layer of floss on the top. This is the media which will build up good bacteria as the water from the tank circulates through it.

Are you going to fishless cycle?

Yes will do fishless cycle. though Jewel recommend cycling with 5 hardy fish and weekly water changes. Poor fish! Planning to use 50% water from current tanks as I do frequent water changes. Is this a good idea to speed up cycling or shold I use clean fresh water
Emma on forum sent me this link which explains all about Juwel filters, in case any other newbies are reading this/

Have a look on here http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/standard205.htm?cat=75 it has all the instructions,
